THE INCOMPARABLE GOD

Isaiah 40:12-26 NLT
Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?
[13] Who is able to advise the Spirit of the LORD? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him?
[14] Has the LORD ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice?
[15] No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand. [16] All the wood in Lebanon’s forests and all Lebanon’s animals would not be enough to make a burnt offering worthy of our God.
[17] The nations of the world are worth nothing to him. In his eyes they count for less than nothing— mere emptiness and froth.
[18] To whom can you compare God? What image can you find to resemble him?
[19] Can he be compared to an idol formed in a mold, overlaid with gold, and decorated with silver chains?
[20] Or if people are too poor for that, they might at least choose wood that won’t decay and a skilled craftsman to carve an image that won’t fall down!
[21] Haven’t you heard? Don’t you understand? Are you deaf to the words of God— the words he gave before the world began? Are you so ignorant?
[22] God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them.
[23] He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing.
[24] They hardly get started, barely taking root, when he blows on them and they wither. The wind carries them off like chaff.
[25] “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One.
[26] Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.

The poignant question in verse 25, “to whom will you compare me, or who is my equal?” is one we all have to answer individually and cooperatively. Have you found anyone, anything or any deity that can be compared to the Lord?
What man-made image could ever portray a God so great? The rich man makes his idol with precious metal and the poor man with wood according to Deuteronomy 27:17.
Can you answer this question? To whom can you compare the Lord? No one! God alone is God. We see Isaiah sarcastically describe the process of making an idol here.
All the Godliness of God is beyond compare, no man can be His measure. Isaiah 40:6-7 says man is like grass, shaky, unsure and temporal, so can’t be compared to God.
Our God is beyond comparison; He is matchless and unequalled to other gods; every other god is one of futility according to Jeremiah 10:8. No entity in heaven or earth compares to the divine grandeur and splendour of God.
God is incomparable according to the text. From Isaiah’s writing, the picture of an incomparable God begins to appear, can you see Him?
The Lord asks questions that demonstrate His unparalleled, unrivalled sovereignty over the nations in verse twelve.
God alone spoke the world into existence and calls all the elements by name. who can direct the spirit of the Lord or give Him counsel? No one.
The omniscient God possesses unsearchable knowledge, He does not need to search google, thesaurus or consult a shrink to know-He know all things.
The God who created the world is mightier than the gods worshipped by most humans, see Exodus 20:3, 4.
With whom will you compare the Lord? Who is God’s equal?
God is the unequal, one-and-only God of creation. God alone is God. No one, not man, not idols made of hands is a match for God.
God’s incomparable creativity is seen in verses 21-26, Psalm 104:24, and Jeremiah 10:12, even the elements testify to God’s incomparableness in Psalm 19:1-4.
Who do you compare God to and with?
God’s knowledge is incomparable, Hannah puts it best in 1 Samuel 2:2-3, can you describe the Lord from all He’s done for you or to what man can do for you?
God’s knowledge is so vast that He even knows every single strand of your hair by number, says Matthew 10:30 and the stars by name in Psalm 147:4.
God’s immense love is incomparable to that of any mortal, the love measurable only, and conceivable only, by the gift of His precious son; He so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son in John 3:16 to a dying world that has no idea of the magnitude of God’s sacrifice for them.
God’s standard, character and trustworthiness are measured by His faithfulness and word. We can’t compare God with anything or anyone. We must maintain that God is true and every other thing, especially man is a liar because the condition on which His word was given complies with His personality, name and faithfulness.
Our God is the creator of the universe and sovereign over all things in absolute power and glory.
To whom or what will you compare the Lord? No one! He alone is the incomparable God.
Shalom
