Exodus 32:26 (BBE)
Then Moses took his place at the way into the tents, and said, Whoever is on the Lord’s side, let him come to me. And all the sons of Levi came together to him.
Whose side are you on? Who is on the Lord’s side? Are you on God’s side?
We take sides in life every day in different quarters, family members expect us to side with them over others to prove our love, friends expect us to side with them against other friends to prove our loyalty, even employers expect us to take their side against their competitors to keep them in business.
The Lord of Host is asking you the same question today, whose side are you on? Are you on the Lord’s side or yours?
Can the Lord count on you to loyally stick to Him through trials and tribulations and be on the Lord’s side? Being on the Lord’s side means you may be expected at any time to do things that may sometimes be unpalatable for us and make us unpopular like the Israeli’s who identified and sided with Moses when he asked this question.
They feared Moses want coming back down the mountain where he was seeking God on their behalf, so decided to desecrate the camp by making a graven image to worship in place of the God who just brought them out of bondage with a mighty hand and so when God sent Moses down from the mountain. He was ready to destroy them all and start over with Moses, but Moses began to intercede on their behalf. When Moses saw what was taking place, he became angry and broke the tablets of the Law.
Moses then called for those who were on the Lord’s side to join him and take a stand.
As believers, we need the same kind of call to commitment today, if we don’t stand for something, we will stand for anything, and many have slipped into idolatry through this attitude. They may not be worshipping a golden calf idol, but they are worshipping money, houses, jobs, recreation, and at times, people.
You have heard this in your home, office, or church at times of controversy- “you always take their/his/her side,” you never take my side. Well, God doesn’t take sides with anyone against you but stands with us completely against everything according to Romans 8:31.
Is God on our side? Just before going into battle in Joshua 5:13, he encountered a man standing before him with a drawn sword in hand. Joshua needed to know where this man’s allegiance lies. Hence the question “are you for us, or our adversaries?” The response: “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord.” In other words, he was on neither side as an ally or an enemy. Joshua humbly fell worshipping when he discovered who it was-if we spend less time asking God if He is on our side and more time humbling ourselves in submission to His side, we will not only discover His will and purpose for us but the direction to take as opposed to doing our agenda.
Jesus said that if you are not with him, then you are against him in Matthew 12:30, there is no middle ground between serving God and doing your thing, it’s all or nothing as states in Revelation 3:15-16, you are either on the Lord’s side or you’re not.
Whose side are you on?
Shalom
