Hebrews 12:27-28 ESV
This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. [28] Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,
Everyone craves security, the man with millions to his name, the most prolific and sought-after celebrities, the manual labourer, the front-desk civil servant, the younger stay at home mother and the innocent child looking up to adults: all wants, needs and craves security. Yet the reality of our present world is that so much instability exists. From, finances, health, and even a country’s ability to survive are not guaranteed.
Everything in life, on this side of heaven, is subject to change and can be shaken by circumstances, conditions of man and unstable standards.
September 11/2001 (what we now call 9/11) is a date many will forever remember as a dark day when the face of evil peered through the clouds and was seen by millions all over the world.
The day when man’s inhumanity to man took a new form, a day the death kernel rang accidentally for many but intentionally and deliberately by a few.
Where were you when this happened? What was the first thought that came to your mind?
I remember staring at the TV screaming “oh God” over and over, with terror and holy anger in me-why?
The day the earth choked on the blood of the innocent.
The day that knows no tribe, colour, race or language, Galatians 3:28. When people of every nation united in grief and mourning, calling on the God of all nations whom some didn’t even know-, God wants us to be this united in love and in Him, Acts 17:26.
A day we will all remember that reminds us of the frailty of life, the uncertainty of life, the certainty of death and the absolute need for God. God doesn’t want man to seem self-sufficient in his own eyes but wants us to recognise that every natural thing is temporal-2 Corinthians 4:18.
We have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Malachi 2:6 says “yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens—When the law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai, there was an earthquake that shook the whole mountain in Exodus 19:18 but now God says He will shake everything, including the heavens and the cosmic.
Life is shallow and full of holes, hopes that can only be plugged with and by God’s grace, love and redemption.
No matter what weapons, power or manipulation man employs, he can only shake a little portion of a place at best. The word and kingdom of our God cannot be shaken, not by man or demon.
The word of God can shake from us those traits, characters, attitudes and behaviours that do not glorify Him. The Lord keeps beckoning on us to come closer from out of the cold cruel world to the warm embrace of love and security, how will you respond to Him?
Man’s only lasting hope is Jesus. Where is your security? If not in Christ Jesus, then where or on what have you placed your security? Now is a good time to turn your life over to Him because He alone offers a kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Shalom
