Deuteronomy 31:6 (MSG)
“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because GOD, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.”
The presence of the Lord is everything to a believer and the Lord promises to be with us always, to never leave us alone. The key to experiencing the Christian life successfully daily is the power from the presence of God.
The Lord wants to be with us and will respond to us when we seek Him. We crave audiences with people of influence, authority, and service providers, in most cases we wait on them until they have the time to spare for us, wait- as in patiently spend time in their presence without trying to hurry them along. Compare that to how we treat God’s presence?
People say things like, “when I’m in God’s presence, let us welcome the presence of God, engaging the presence of God, and let’s come into God’s presence”- these are scripturally wrong because it directly opposes Deuteronomy 31:8
The Lord—will go before you—To prepare your way, and to direct you.
He will be with you—Accompany you in all your journeys and assist thee in all your enterprises.
He will not fail you—Your expectation, however strong and extensive, shall never be disappointed.
Neither forsake you—He knows that without Him we can’t do anything, He will continue with us in the excellency of His power.
When we walk closely with the Lord and abide in Him (this is continuous, we never leave the Lord’s presence), people somehow sense that we’ve been with Him on a higher level, some of the Lord’s radiance will rub off on us as it did with Moses who didn’t realise it until the people reacted to the brightness of his face in Exodus 34:29.
The most common Hebrew term for the presence of God also means the face of God, which implies a close and personal encounter with the Lord.
The Bible describes heaven as a place filled with God’s presence. Angels stand in God’s presence and act on his authority as he directs them, as seen in Luke 1:19. Satan came before the Lord when he sought permission to attack Job, 1:6, 12. Hebrews 9:24 says Christ completed his earthly ministry by entering heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. Since heaven is the highest, most exalted place of all, it is fitting that God display his presence there.
The presence of the Lord is the secret place of every Christian— anyone who legitimately enter in, is wrapped in the cloud of glory, the presence of God. This was formally the privilege of the OT high priest but under the new covenant all believers, have the boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus.
Christ’s sacrificial death has made it possible for us to live in God’s presence continually according to Hebrews 10:20. Although sometimes, it may feel like God is far away, it’s certainly how I feel a time, but Psalm 27:4 says to desire the Lord’s presence all the days of our lives.
In Your presence, there’s where I am strong, in Your presence, oh Lord my God, In Your presence
In Your presence. That’s where I am strong. In Your presence. O Lord my God. In Your presence. That’s where I belong. Seeking Your face. Touching Your grace. In the cleft of the Rock. In Your presence oh God, (In Your presence: Paul Wilbur).
Shalom
