THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT

Matthew 9:20-22 (BBE)
20 And a woman, who for twelve years had had a flow of blood, came after him, and put her hand on the edge of his robe:
21 Because, she said to herself, if I may but put my hand on his robe, I will be made well.
22 But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, Daughter, take heart; your faith has made you well. And the woman was made well from that hour.

Jesus was on His way somewhere to help someone, Jairus’s daughter but stopped because someone else had a need and that need was communicated to Jesus by a touch on the “hem of His garment.”
The word “hem” means “fringe, tassel, or the border of a garment”, Numbers 15:38-39. Various passages in the Bible refers to incidents where people who touched the “Hem” of Jesus’ garments were instantly healed.
Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God had virtue residing in His body, ready to flow out to heal without any act of will on His part, or any act of faith on ours, because He is anointed, Isaiah 61:1-4. All that this unnamed woman had to do was to touch, and in doing so she was careful to touch the portion of His garment, the tassel, which to a Jew was the holiest part of a garment. According to Numbers 15:37, every Jewish male was required to have a tassel on the four corners of his cloak to remind him of God’s commands. But since there was real faith mingled with her superstition, Jesus allowed her to be healed, only calling her back afterwards to make her faith perfect.
By asking ‘Who touched me?’ and insisting on a full confession, He made it clear to the woman and others that He had healed her by His deliberate act and was fully aware of all the circumstances of the case, where she was thinking of getting healed without getting Jesus. By saying your faith has saved you, He reproved her superstition. Not the touch, nor the holy tassel, nor the supposed magic virtue had healed her, but her faith in Jesus, the son of God.
Jesus is still telling us today that, there is no way one can escape into God’s kingdom without Him, nor can one “steal” anything from the Lord, as this woman intended to do without using the principles of the kingdom of ask, seek and knock, Matthew 7:7. Jesus accepted this woman’s imperfect faith and rendered it perfect as He did with many others who came to Him and still does with us always.
This woman had spent all her money on medication, drugs and gone from place to place looking for help but one day she hears that Jesus is coming to town, and she finds this the perfect opportunity for her healing. She had tried every other option available and spent all she had but to no avail. This was her last hope and what better place than in a crowd.
For her to reach the hem of Jesus’s garment, she had to almost kneel or lay on the ground to touch it, that was how desperate she needed to get healed. How far would you go to get what you need from the Lord? How low are you willing to kneel to touch the hem of His garment?
Keep pushing, no matter the mountains, no matter the difficulty or challenges and the failures, keep pushing to reach the hem of Christ’s garment. The word of God and the blood of Jesus has the power to heal every issue.
