THE GOOD SOIL

Matthew 13:1-9 NLT
Later that same day Jesus left the house and sat beside the lake.
[2] A large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat there and taught as the people stood on the shore.
[3] He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. [4] As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them.
[5] Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. [6] But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died.
[7] Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants.
[8] Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!
[9] Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”

what type of soil are you?
Jesus Christ in the parable of the Sower uses the soil to represent the heart, in that saying, he makes it clear that the word of God is a seed that will only grow to maturity and harvest only in the good soil.
Jesus says there are four kinds of soil:
The pathway Soil in verse four is “When someone hears the word of the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is that sown by the road.” People may not understand the Word of God because they prefer sin and worldly pleasure.
The Rocky soil mentioned in verse five those who hear the word of God and genuinely receive it with joy and victory, yet fail to stand for the truth, they’re soon overwhelmed by the doubting spirits around them because the soil had no dept for the root.
The thorny soil in verse seven are those who hear the word, remain among the assembly of saints, but are unfruitful. These are the ones referred to in verse twenty-two the ones who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word and prove unfruitful.
The focus of this parable is on the condition of the heart and not the word, as we know from Hebrew 4:2 that the word is living and active. Jesus is saying here that, if the word is not working in and for you, then it’s a heart condition, the soil, not the word.
Which soil are you?
The good soil?
We must allow the Holy Spirit to cultivate the soil of our heart to prepare it to receive the word of God that will impact our lives. Everyone knows the value of soil and its importance for a good and healthy harvest.
Finally, verse eight speaks of the good soil of our hearts while verse twenty-three further adds that what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and another thirty.”
Now, can you answer the question? Which of these soils are you?
The good soil receives and understands Jesus’ words and becomes extremely fruitful in the things of the kingdom. This is the only kind of heart or soil Jesus commends. To be fruitful means to be obedient to God in everything we do. The good soil or heart produces a new crop that is thirty, sixty, or a hundred-fold. The good soil more than makes up for the other three soils and their failure to produce.
The good soil always produces!
When the truth of God’s word is proclaimed, Satan does his best to keep it from being received, understood, and believed. He snatches it from the heart of the wayside soil before it can take root in the heart and bring about change. He causes pressures of life, the lust of the flesh and spiritual battles to choke the word.
We need to constantly feed on the word of God to fertilize our heart to keep it ready and good for the planting of the word. Be the good soil.
Shalom
