THE CHOICE; ZAP PLAN B-Z.

1 Kings 19:19-21 (AMP)
19 So Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat, whose plowing was being done with twelve yoke of oxen, and he drove the twelfth. Elijah crossed over to him and cast his mantle upon him.
20 He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, Let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you. And he [testing Elisha] said, Go on back. What have I done to you? [Settle it for yourself.]
21 So Elisha went back from him. Then he took a yoke of oxen, slew them, boiled their flesh with the oxen’s yoke [as fuel], and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, followed Elijah, and served him.

We often ask the question about choices i.e., what choice do I have, what are your options, what will you do, have you got other plans? There are people who make plan B for their original plan and still have contingency plans in case of failure. Even believers seem to be making contingency plans if God’s plans don’t work, but Proverbs 19:21 says God directs our plans.
The freedom or free will to make our own choices is particularly important in our lives and we all make choices that affect us daily.
But no matter what our choices are, they create our future because every choice we make will either set us to succeed or fail, blessed, or cursed.
Some people have plans A-Z, some will try everything until they decide which is more profitable to them, see Job 34:4.
Choices!
We’ve got to learn to make and stick to the choice and zap (forget, ignore and cancel) every other plan when we deal with the father, spiritual things do not require contingency plans because according to Psalm 33:1, God’s plans don’t fail.
In just three verses we see Elisha wholeheartedly break up with his old life by destroying the yoke of oxen that were his livelihood to follow Elijah into ministry-do conduct God’s will and plan for his life.
Jesus, in Luke 9:61-62 explained that the cost of following Him, the cost of ministry, discipleship, and the Christian life is high, and it would therefore not be for the faint-hearted, weak, and lazy.
Elisha was already divinely appointed and anointed by God in verse 19, hence the instruction to Elijah to put the mantle of office on Elisha who knew before following Elijah that he would undergo discipleship. It seems, he understood the implication of the mantle thrown on him and made the choice to follow.
Have you ever made a choice and then made another plan in case the choice plan fails? Do you make a contingency plan if God doesn’t answer your prayer? So many still do that but Proverbs 16:2 disproves this.
So many of us hold on to people and things we are afraid of letting go of because we might need them later if things don’t work out the way we plan.
So, Elisha made the choice to zap plans B-Z, to accept God’s will and plan with no fallback plan.
Would you burn down, give away or break up all you’ve worked for to follow God’s vision for your life and destiny?
Imagine if God says to give way all your money (millions etc.) and live daily depending on Him for everything? Would you?
Elisha did not only slaughter the oxen but break up the yoke for firewood to cook the meat which he served to his family as a symbol of goodbye (when they see him next, he’ll be prophet Elisha), no room to return to the family business.
Elisha demonstrated what Jesus said in Matthew 19:29 that there is a hundredfold reward for leaving things to follow him.
Are you willing to forgo all your choices and plans and make the choice to follow Jesus, including giving up those things?
Make the choice and zap all other plans. Forget plans B-Z. embrace God’s plan.
Shalom
