STICK TO THE END

2 Kings 2:9-10 (AMP)
And when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.
He said, You have asked a hard thing. However, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you—but if not, it shall not be so.

There are starters only and there are starters and finishers. A lot of people know how to start something but have no idea or drive to keep at it or finish it.
Surely, we’ve all done it: we start something new and then leave it unfinished. There’s nothing wrong with that if each stage is to be managed by different people, but it’s a problem if you always start your visions and abandon them halfway.
We passionately start something new with so much enthusiasm without thorough thoughts and plan of how long it will take to complete, or the boredom and labour it would involve.
When we realize we aren’t sure about the next step, we become stuck. We usually don’t recognize that we’ve essentially quit trying.
We just put off getting back to it until we imagine it will be effortless to start again, but nothing worth doing is effortless.
There are always going to be obstacles in our paths but we must look for ways to go around, over or through them, if every time we come across these obstacles, we quit, we would never see anything to the end.
Sometimes, these obstacles may just be a test of our seriousness and to strengthen our resolve, like Elisha- imagine if he’d given up and gone back each time Elijah told to! Elisha had asked for a double portion of Elijah’s anointing, how was Elijah to know his seriousness to receive the anointing and if he would stick to the end.
The assignment was if Elisha saw Elijah being caught up to heaven, he can have what he’s asked for, it’s the same for us, how do we know our capacity and capabilities if we give up at every curve?
It is very important to see things through to the end especially an assignment from the Lord, the bible instructs us in Luke 14:28-30 to plan properly and make sure we have the resources and capital we need before we embark on any project, so that we don’t give up.
You can just hear Elijah saying to Elisha “if you stick with me until the end if you finish what you started-then you may have what you asked for.”
Many people, including believers, ask things in prayer but are not willing to do what’s required of us to receive what we asked for. Asking is always the easy part but sticking to it and seeing things through to the end is more challenging than we can manage sometimes.
Everything in life requires hard work, we will encounter unexpected detours, betrayals, misunderstandings, and many unpleasant things but we must endure- endurance is needed for going all the way, sticking to the end. Jesus said anyone wanting to follow Him, must be willing and ready to take up their cross, if we can’t stick to anything we start to the end, how do we stick to carrying our cross to the end?
Life will happen and challenges will creep up, but we must hold on and stick it out to the end, no matter what the challenges are. If it matters to you, start it and if you start it, stick to it until the end.
Shalom
