Ephesians 4:31-32 (CSBBible)
31 Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice.
32 And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
Poison or venom is a substance that can cause the illness or death of a living organism when introduced or absorbed into the body. Poison is a toxic and venomous substance usually extracted from plant or created from chemicals.
Deuteronomy 29:18 says the poison of an embittered spirit turns one away from the living God. This could signify venomous or poisonous doctrines and teachings that are outside the parameters of the true Gospel of the bible.
Negative emotions are so normal in the present generation that it is seen as an acceptable way of life and a way to describe someone’s personality. Some people allow such emotions to break, stunt or stop them from living a healthy lifestyle whilst exhibiting these emotions physically.
According to Romans 12:1-2, we should not conform to the age of acceptance of poisonous behaviours that society condones but we should allow the word of God to affect and change our mindset. God admonishes us through scriptures to avoid these attitudes and behaviours vehemently.
Anger, uncontrollable anger is a poison to the soul, we will all exhibit anger at some point in life, but we mustn’t be like the fool recorded in Proverb 29;11. Too many people excuse anger today by blaming it on their natural disposition or the circumstances but when we allow the anger to influence our actions, that’s when it becomes a sin no matter how valid it is according to Ephesians 4:26. It’s all right to get angry as long as it does not eat you up and become the poison you use to harm yourself and those around you. Letter “D” is one letter that separates anger from danger, both are a catastrophic combination, be careful with how you handle anger because it always leads to danger.
Envy or jealousy dethrones God, it is leprosy, it destroys your spiritual health, it sucks the joy, happiness, and contentment out of living and rots the bones stipulates Proverbs 14:30. You spend so much good energy expressing envy or jealousy and anger that could be of a better use for positive things. James 3:14-16 calls envy/jealousy demonic. Envy blocks you from seeing the good in others and stops you from benefiting from good relationships.
Gluttony is taking and doing things in excess that may be detrimental to us but according to 1 Corinthians 10:31, it says too much of everything is bad for us, emotionally, physically, and especially spiritually. The Roman empire fell because she overstuffed herself on all kind of delicacies but starved her soul like so many Christians today, there is no nutrients in their diet of religion, just useless fat. Instant gratification wars with spiritual gratification. I want it and I want it now. Excess is the norm for our society today according to Philippians 3:19 and proverbs says to put a knife to your throat if you are a glutton. Overeating is a poison that causes all kinds of medical and physical issues. Moderation is key. Proverbs 25:16.
It doesn’t really matter how poison is administered, the truth is, after a while it begins to take effect and destroy you; this is a good place to exhibit self-control.
Shalom
