SPIRITUAL AMBITION

Joshua 15:13 (YLT)
[13] And to Caleb son of Jephunneh hath he given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of Jehovah to Joshua, even the city of Arba, father of Anak–it is Hebron.
[14] And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,
[15] and he goeth up thence unto the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir formerly is Kirjath-Sepher.
[16] And Caleb saith, ‘He who smiteth Kirjath-Sephar, and hath captured it–I have given to him Achsah my daughter for a wife.’
[17] And Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, doth capture it, and he giveth to him Achsah his daughter for a wife.
[18] And it cometh to pass, in her coming in, that she persuadeth him to ask from her father a field, and she lighteth from off the ass, and Caleb saith to her, ‘What–to thee?’
[19] And she saith, ‘Give to me a blessing; when the land of the south thou hast given me, then thou hast given to me springs of waters;’ and he giveth to her the upper springs and the lower springs.
Ambition is the desire and determination to do or achieve and to seek earnestly after something. It is also the act of going about to solicit or obtain an office, or any other object of desire, canvassing for a position.
Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that seeking the Lord should be our most achieving spiritual ambition, whatever ambitions we have can never be gained without the authority of Jesus according to John 14:13.
Are you an ambitious person?
We all are somewhat ambitious, some are ambitious for wealth, some for fame, most for better jobs, careers, or positions, and some for family, alas, the average Christian has no spiritual ambition whatsoever. So many people are happy to live out their lives by barely skimming the surface of their faith and the wealth of knowledge and promises offered in the scriptures that are only attained by those ambitious enough to dig, discover and apply it to life.
We see in Genesis 11, the lofty ambition of the people wanting to reach heaven by their works, meanwhile Christ says in Matthew 20:25-26 that the spiritually ambitious is to be a servant and not a master.
Negatively in Numbers 16:3, Kora’s spiritual ambition was to incite the assembly of Israel against Moses and Aaron over the role of God’s chosen leader.
How spiritually ambitious are you?
Are you seeking and asking like Caleb, who was spiritually ambitious to wait and received his portion of the allotted land in verse 13, and his daughter Achsah? Whose spiritual ambition netted her land in the South, springs of water on every side as well as a husband in verse 19?
Joshua, after a great battle with the southern cities, defeated and took Hebron in Joshua 10:36, but Israel did not follow up on that victory, they returned to settle in Gilgal, just as, today we don’t follow up on the victory and finished work of our Saviour on the cross. We have no spiritual ambitions to take up the spoils of Christ’s victory, instead, we chose to bed for what already belongs to us.
Caleb exercised his spiritual ambition after 45years to ask for the hill county that he was promised: he got it! Hebron became Caleb’s in verse 13.
Let’s not forget Salome’s spiritual ambition and petition in Matthew 20:21, talking about soliciting to secure posts, seats and positions for her boys by trying to lobby the master. Bold right!
Seriously, how bold are we to approach the Father concerning things that are already given to us? We tend to shrug our shoulders and expect things to just happen. Are you spiritually ambitious enough to actively pursue God’s will according to Matthew 7:7?
There is nothing too big or impossible to ask the Lord and Ephesians 3:20 assures us of this.
The question is are you spiritually ambitious enough to ask?
You must ask for whatever you need as instructed in John 14:13, ask, so that your joy may be full says John16:24.
Spiritual ambition assures and guarantees that we’ll find the Lord when we seek Him with all our hearts because our ambitions are fuelled by the word of God and manifested by the Holy Spirit.
Be ambitious! The Lord can surpass your ambition with His see 3 John 1:2.
Shalom
