2 Chronicles 26:1-5
All the people of Judah had crowned Amaziah’s sixteen-year-old son, Uzziah, as king in place of his father.
2 After his father’s death, Uzziah rebuilt the town of Elath[a] and restored it to Judah.
3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem.
4 He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight, just as his father, Amaziah, had done.
5 Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God.[b] And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success.
The Lord says if we seek Him, we will find Him in Jeremiah 29:13. Uzziah sought God in the days of Zechariah–a wise and pious counsellor, who was skilled in understanding the meanings and lessons of the ancient prophecies and had influence over Uzziah.
We spend time, effort and money seeking knowledge and success, we read self-help books, attend events on how to succeed, we even pay to follow proven paths of famous people but some or all of them are in vain if the Lord isn’t in the plans according to Proverbs 16:9.
Success gained from seeking the Lord is the success that makes us soar like the eagles we’re compared to-soar as high as you can go!
Life is a struggle, we go up and down, soar today, fall tomorrow but in God, we have the speed and wind to keep going steady and easily because we’re not looking at the natural but the supernatural-Proverbs 16:3. We must learn to rely on God completely for success for all our purposes.
Without question, the one way that we should seek after the Lord is in our prayer life, a practice that is fully founded and grounded in and through the reading and studying of the bible.
Fellowship with other believers and spiritual mentors is a powerful way to seek the Lord just like Uzziah, his fellowship with Zechariah (a prophet and a mentor) added value to his office as a king, especially as he ascended the throne at the young age of 16 as stated in verse 1 while verse 3 says he reigned for 52 years and did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but the clincher is verse 5. He sought the Lord all the days of Zechariah’s life, the one who taught him to fear God.
If we read further from verse 6, we realise and maybe conclude that once the “teacher of the fear of the Lord” was dead, the king went astray, he no longer prospered or succeeded probably because he no longer sought the Lord.
People seek the Lord for all kinds of reasons and desire, from spiritual, emotional, material and others; the wicked asks the Lord to help them succeed, the righteous ask God too, some only come seeking when they need healing, babies, jobs, spouse and other things- but the Lord says, “Seek Me,”
“Call Me and “find Me” because “I AM always near.” See Isaiah 55:6.
Go after the Lord with all that is in you not only for what you can get out of Him but for all He wants to give you and use you to achieve. The word of God testifies to God’s truth and against the flesh, so, when we seek Him—that is, the knowledge of Him as opposed to others, we seek the desire to conform to His will. Believe it or not, everything you’ll ever need is wrapped up in the word of God according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
Your success is dependent on you knowing the Lord’s will for you. Amos 5:4 says seeking God is the true means of getting true success and being alive.
His strength is the only true source of protection. Seek the Lord, you need Him.
Shalom
