Genesis 26:12-25 (KJV)
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
19 And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
23 And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.
Promotion is something everyone desires, only it does not come from your boss, it doesn’t come from anyone or anywhere but from the Lord according to Psalm 75:6. Promotion is the act of promoting, advancing, or encouraging; the act of exalting in rank or honour; also, the condition of being advanced, increased, and encouraged.
When we labour, we expect an increase or expansion in investments, in some cases, you will need to make room physically to accommodate your increase, unfortunately, if you haven’t laboured in any way, the Lord will have nothing to make room for.
Rehoboth is “Room for us” or more appropriately “room for me,”
Praise God, now, at last, the Lord has granted me ample space to increase in the nation where I live, grow in business, get promoted at work, have a home, and increase my family- whatever situations you’ve been contending with, God is still able to make room for you.
We know the story of Isaac’s well digging and the contentions over the wells. So many of us have things and people contending with us over issues and things that are meant for us, or we have done, just like Isaac, some gave up in the face of said contentions.
Like Isaac, we should never give up on what we want when we are faced with challenges and difficulties, no matter what they may be because although God has made room for you, you still need to take authority and take possession of your inheritance according to Psalm 37:29.
Our response to contentions like Isaac is to walk away rather than argue. It is said that “he who fights and runs away may live to fight another day,” it may seem cowardly but from the story, we know there was a famine in the land, water was very scarce and precious yet Isaac was walking in obedience to God and in righteousness, he followed the divine command not to change location but to dig a well which was needed to supply water to his recently planted seed and whenever he found that his work was likely to be a subject of strife and contention, he gave place and rather chose to suffer wrong than to have his peace of mind disturbed. There is one lesson that Isaac learned that we all need to understand, that God is the one who makes us fruitful, we don’t become successfully fruitful by our abilities and strength.
Are you trying or looking for a room for more? God can make room for you in any area you want if you’ll just trust Him to handle it His way. You feel you’ve been passed over for promotion repeatedly and you’re ready to do battle to get what you think you deserve or have worked for-take a moment and think how much better and bigger the Lord can make room for you without the physical, mental and emotional torture that goes into you battling for yourself. Remember Romans 8:31 says who can be against you when the Lord is on your side. God has given you the best of the land with room to grow, Genesis 47:6, dig those wells and do not let anyone or anything make you give them up.
Shalom
