Isaiah 7:11-13 (MSG)
11 “Ask for a sign from your GOD. Ask anything. Be extravagant. Ask for the moon!”
12 But Ahaz said, “I’d never do that. I’d never make demands like that on GOD!”
13 So Isaiah told him, “Then listen to this, government of David! It’s bad enough that you make people tired with your pious, timid hypocrisies, but now you’re making God tired.
Miracles are events or effects contrary to the established constitution and course of things, or a deviation from the known laws of nature; a supernatural occurrence, one transcending the ordinary laws by which the universe is governed. A wonder or wonderful thing. Look around you, everything around you reek of miracles, you too are a miracle, unlike Adam and Eve, you were knitted according to Psalm 138:13-18 in the womb.
Miracles are events that unmistakably involve the powerful action of a mighty God designed to reveal His character or purposes to mankind. Words used in the Scriptures to describe the miraculous include sign, wonder, work, mighty work, portent, power. These point toward God’s activity in nature, history, and people.
Signs and wonders are synonyms that often occur together in the same text seen in Exodus 7:3.
A sign may be an object or daily activity as well as an unexpected divine action like Genesis 1:14.
The basic nature of a sign is that it points people to God. Wonders describe God’s supernatural activity, a special manifestation of His power according to Psalm 77:14.
Wonders can serve as a sign of a future event while Signs seek to bring belief as seen in Exodus 4:5, but they don’t compel a person to believe seen in Exodus 4:9.
Sometimes God invites people to ask for signs, signs that will make peoples on earth stand in awe of Him according to Psalm 65:8.
The God of Israel alone does wonders according to Psalm 72:18 such as the greatest miracle of the birth of Jesus and His resurrection. Miracles still happen because wherever God steps in, miracles occur.
The Lord wants to give you a miracle today, there are numerous miracles and signs signed you’re your name waiting to happen if you’ll believe and ask and the Lord is beckoning on you to ask whatsoever you will according to John 14:13, no limit.
Ask for a sign from your GOD. Ask anything. Be extravagant. Ask for the moon!” no limit!
Seriously! ask… in… depth—literally, “Make it deep… ask big,” that is, go to the depth of the earth or Hell, or, mount high for it, make it highly unattainable and God can still afford it. God is offering you a blank cheque for you to fill as desires, the King of the universe is asking you to ask for “anything,” with no limit. There is nothing you ask that will bankrupt or overwhelm God.
Unfortunately, like Ahaz, we keep refusing to ask and when we do, we ask for inconsequential and small things thinking the Lord either can’t or won’t grant us what we need. But God is so merciful and gracious that He will give us what we need anyway. Aeneas in Acts 9:34 didn’t have to ask but he received the miracle of healing through Peter.
“Ask” is to make a verbal request, we cannot receive from the Lord if we can’t be bothered to open our mouths and ask, Matthew 7:7 says that’s all you must do, that’s the easy part, ASK and you will receive. So, ask, whatever you need, it’s not too much to ask for. Believe in miracles again and ask and you’ll receive.
Shalom
