Psalm 92:12-15 (ESV)
12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green,
15 to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
Flourishing is a healthy or vigorous way of growth or development but the only things that can be subject to flourishing are microorganisms, especially when exposed to a stronger and fertile environment.
The vigorous growth, longevity, utility, fragrance, and beauty of the Christian life depend on what and where they are planted. As a Child of God, planted in Christ with God as your source, you can flourish wherever God plants you.
Although you may not initially understand why God has planted you where you are right now, God understands, and He also knows why, and it will all make sense to you in the end.
There’s always a place of flourish in the Lord according to Genesis 26 which tells us Isaac flourished where the Lord planted him during the time of famine, just as you too can flourish wherever the Lord plants you.
Flourishing does not only mean to thrive in the natural sense like Isaac did but also to thrive in a spiritual walk with God.
Verse 13 says those planted in the house of the Lord will certainly flourish in God’s courts just like trees flourish in whatever type of soil and climates planted especially if it’s in the Lord’s house.
The metaphor used to convey the idea of flourishing is that of a palm tree planted beside an abundantly flowing river. Such trees grow vigorously and have healthy leaves that produce through all seasons. The palm tree is a symbol of victory as seen in the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in Luke 19:28-40.
Believers should be like palm trees and flourish like the cedars of Lebanon which are known for their strength and durability, making use of it to the construction of the temple in Jerusalem.
Our comparison to the palm tree is an indication that our lives continue to flourish to represent the total state of healthy bodies, souls, and spirits.
The green leaves of a plant represent good physical and emotional health and abundant fruitfulness as scripture dictates as good success referred to in Joshua 1:8.
We are created to flourish but only in God! Christ has promised a flourishing life for us, which implies that He has brought healing and health to us because we are planted beside the river of living water.
The decisions we make will determine whether our lives can flourish or not.
A flourishing life is a blessed life according to Jeremiah 17:8, as we are likened to a tree planted by living waters.
A flourishing life is one that is alive, healthy. glowing and growing. Just like the palm tree, if we are to flourish and produce fruit, we must have our roots deep down in God to receive and remain regularly nourished. We must be established in the walk with God to receive guidance and encouragement that will help us to thrive in our gifts and talents.
Would you like to flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon today? Right now? Then plant yourself in the Lord, as a priest unto God, ministering to the Lord, and you will most certainly flourish in the courts of our God. In God, you are made to flourish.
Shalom
