Isaiah 60:1-5 (AMP)
1 ARISE [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness [all] peoples, but the Lord shall arise upon you [O Jerusalem], and His glory shall be seen on you.
3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 Lift up your eyes round about you and see! They all gather themselves together, they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried and nursed in the arms.
5 Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy [at the glorious deliverance] and be enlarged; because the abundant wealth of the [Dead] Sea shall be turned to you, unto you shall the nations come with their treasures.
You are planted wherever you are on earth to be a light, bringing out God-colour in the monochromic world around you. Your light is to bring people out of trouble and darkness into God’s light and peace. God is not a secret that needs to be kept quiet or hidden, our lives are meant to light up the world around us. You are to go public with the message of the cross like a lighted city on a hill. Psalm 18:28 says God makes our light shine and light up the darkness.
Light has many different shades, the inner glow that expresses itself through the enlightenment of joy, light, and life that is visible on the countenance.
Light is the natural symbol of all that is pleasant, good, and uplifting as presented in the contrast between the Egyptians in darkness and the Israelites in the light in Exodus 10:2-23.
Let the divine illumination of God’s light in you help you to be a light to the world.
The Lord uses the cracks in us, broken vessels, to illuminate the world around us. A broken vessel is what the Lord needs and uses to do His will; an otherwise useless, unworthy vessel that is only good for the dump becomes a treasure in God’s hand declares 2 Corinthians 4:7.
Let your light shine brightly in whatever you do to maximize the impact on those around you. Do not hide your light or allow anything or person to dim or put out.
Do not hide your light under the cloak of religion, legalism, political correctness, and politics, nor societal expectations and the lies of the enemy, then becoming an obstacle to the very people the Lord has sent you to impact. Live and walk in the light: follow Jesus completely and allow your character to be built into a signpost for others to follow and reach God.
Your character is what makes you unique, your essence is what marks you wherever you go to attract people to Christ through you or repel them from following Christ.
When you walk in godly character and essence, you easily and joyfully exhibit the fruit of the spirit and your light shines through radiantly to lighten your path and touch lives.
If a lamp doesn’t help people see, it is useless. Does your life show other people how to find God and how to live for him? If not, ask yourself what has extinguished your light. Things like complacency, resentment, stubbornness of heart, or disobedience could keep God’s light from shining through you to others according to Matthew 5:16.
Let that flickering light mentioned in Proverbs 4:18 grow steadily until it becomes a fireball that others may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honour and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
When we follow Jesus, the true light, we avoid walking blindly, groping, and stumbling into sin. Your light reflects the light of God within you, Jesus inside of you: when allowed to blaze makes you a witness of Christ according to Philippians 2:15.
1 Thessalonians 5:5 calls us children of light; we should then be seen as light by everyone around us. (Extract from women of light book)
