John 8:58 (BBE)
Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.
It is a natural progression to write on the I AM statements of Jesus after the previous write up on the I AM THAT I AM. How do you see Jesus? Who is Jesus to you?
At the heated exchange between Jesus and certain antagonistic Jews, Jesus uttered what has become for believers, the proof of his pre-existence in heaven as God. The Jews wanted to kill Jesus because he claimed to be the “I AM” of the Old Testament.
Some today still argue the truth that Jesus is not the son of God, Jesus is not the Messiah, and neither is He the word.
When we look properly at John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory of the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. We will discover who the Lord Jesus is, revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
That only one who was at the beginning—who was with God—and who was God, John 1:1, in the fullness of time became flesh—became incarnated by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the virgin. Allowing this apostle to have written by Divine inspiration, is not this verse, absolute and incontestable proof of the proper and eternal Godhead of Christ Jesus?
If you believe Jesus’s claim that He, is the I AM, then you must believe Him to be WHO HE WILL BE.
When someone says, “I am” it reveals something about their identity. About the core of their being. About what is most important to them and about them. So, when Jesus says, “I am,” we should pay close attention. He is pulling back the curtain on his glorious character. He is telling us something profoundly important – something we do not want to miss, and we will most certainly need to acknowledge and accept all through our Christian walk.
I am the bread of life. John 6:48. As bread sustains physical life, so Christ offers and sustains spiritual life.
I am the light of the world.” John 8:12. To a world lost in darkness, Christ offers Himself as a guide.
I am the door of the sheep. John 10:9. Jesus protects His followers as shepherds protect their flocks from predators.
I am the resurrection and the life. John 11:25. Death is not the final word for those in Christ.
I am the good shepherd. John 10:11. Jesus is committed to caring and watching over those who are His.
I am the way, the truth, and the life. John 14:6. Jesus is the source of all truth and knowledge about God.
I am the true vine. John 15:1. When attached to Christ, we enable His life to flow in and through us. He came to this earth to live a perfect life, die a sacrificial life, and rise victoriously to life. He came to this earth to offer us salvation, something He did willingly. So, take advantage of what He has purchased for you through the cross. What would you allow Jesus to be to you?
Shalom
