Exodus 3-4
Who is God? What is God to you? How do you see God? Exodus 3:14 (MSG) says “God said to Moses, “I-AM-WHO-I-AM. Tell the People of Israel, ‘I-AM sent me to you.”
Humanity’s redemption was built into the facet of life by God. It started with the redemption of the Israelis from Egypt.
When God called and commissioned Moses, Moses questioned the divine appearance of God and the negative encounter with a man in Exodus 2:14 made Moses question his identity which in turn made him question God’s identity.
The Lord didn’t struggle to explain Himself, neither did He go to any length to persuade Moses to believe or accept the way He introduced Himself. God introduced Himself to Moses with His proper name, His divine name of “I AM,” I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE, and He will indeed be whatever and whoever you want Him to be, and His nature will become evident in His actions. God’s name of “I AM” is a wordplay for:
I EXIST.
I LIVE TO BE.
I WILL EXIST (perfect and imperfect tense used together in the Hebrew text for I AM).
SELF-SUFFICIENT GOD
PRE-EXISTING ONE.
There is no time and distance in God, He was and is before Genesis and after Revelation, He is I AM, that makes Him past, present and future, there is no history in the Lord-He has declared the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. God wanted to assure Moses and Israel that He would become what they would need Him to be, just as He assures you and me today that He is and will be whatever we want Him to be. In using the words, I AM THAT I AM, God was using an expression to reveal to Moses the promise and pledge found in His name. Throughout the Old Testament in the original Hebrew, God is known by his four-letter name YHWH.
Jesus confirms that He too would become whatever we need Him to be in response to the questioning of His greatness in John 8:58. I am from all eternity. I have existed before all ages as documented prove in the comparison of Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3, proving the efficacy of the word of God. God is changeless, He remains the same forever according to Hebrew 13:8.
God’s being as an independent and self-existent God who is fully able to keep promises is forever cemented in His name: I AM WHO I WILL BE.
The redemption plan of God covers you and He still is WHO you will have Him be in your life.
Have you ever wondered, “Who God is?” You are not alone. When Moses thought the same thing, God responded with Who He is: “I AM” in Exodus 3:14, God is still I AM today.
He is all-encompassing and self-sufficient. It is a name above names, one that reminds us that God is in control and meditating on the name He gave Himself, and all that it represents can help put our time on earth into perspective. God is infinite, and He is sovereign over our lives, He Is WHO HE IS. He is The I AM.
Shalom
