Psalm 86:6-7 CEV
Please listen, LORD! Answer my prayer for help.
[7] When I am in trouble, I pray, knowing you will listen.
We all need help occasionally, implying that there’s a helper out there willing to offer that help when needed. God is and always will be the constant helper to us.
The book of Psalms references God a lot as the helper without whom nothing can ever happen.
We all quote Psalm 121, but we must allow it to become flesh in us to accept that God is the first One and place we seek help, and not rely on men and other means to aid us. Our confidence should be in God only, we must look to God and see Him as our all-in-one helper.
Help is on the way!
Help is always on the way when we know where to seek, how to ask for help and who from. If we ring for a service help like the ambulance, plumber, and the likes, because of an emergency, we have the confidence and hope that help will arrive as soon as they can to solve the problem. These services just don’t turn up without one first calling them though, you call, state your need, book an appointment, and then wait for their arrival.
Verse 6 says we must first reach out to the Lord in prayer in times of time to ask for help before we can receive that help.
Have you ever bent down or leaned in to allow someone to whisper something in your ear? God does with us! He inclines His ear to hear our every cry in prayer. God hears every one of our prayers and cries, and He is faithful to help us.
We should learn to confidently make general supplication to the Lord for help in times of trouble, knowing He will answer.
Truth is, no man can do anything for another without God’s hand. Psalm 60:11 refers to this as the futility of man’s help, due mainly to the truth that although God uses man to help us, only those He has approved, assigned, ordained, and sent will help us.
All through the scriptures, we are constantly reminded that God is the “helper” in every situation.
Psalm 63:7 “you have been my help”
Psalm 37:40 “the LORD helps them”
Hebrews 13:6 “The Lord is my helper”
You may be asking yourself why God is ignoring your cry for help, or why no one is offering you help. What you should be doing is declaring that your help is coming from whomever and wherever the Lord has assigned that help to come from according to Psalm 20:2.
Some of our helpers may either have forgotten they need to help us like the cupbearer in Genesis 40:23 or the helper just ignores the need they are meant to meet- James 2:14-17 while some helpers haven’t got the resources at the time to help, Luke 3:10-11. Some other helpers will just withhold the help just because they can, Proverbs 3:27.
The best of men are mere men, they may fail but God will move them as He did with Pharaoh-giving him a dream to draw Joseph to him. So, let your helpers move according to God’s leading and time and not yours. Hold on! Help is on the way!
Shalom
