Hebrews 11:6 (BBE)
And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for him.
A reward is anything given for service, it is to recompense someone for worthy acts or retribution for wrongdoing. It could be a reward given for any kind of labour and only those who persevere to the end can claim such rewards.
The greatest reward in life is found in Christ.
Isn’t it amazing that those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour will not only go to heaven but will be rewarded for things that they’ve done for Christ?
We toil in vain if there’s nothing to look forward to at the end of that toiling, when we work and walk with God, He gives His reward for our spent strength and our labour according to Isaiah 49:4.
When we diligently seek God, He promises a coming reward.
God’s reward includes strength, wisdom, favour, good breaks, promotion, healing, restoration and more than we can think of.
You won’t be able to outrun the good things God has for you if you seek Him with your whole heart. What’s interesting about God’s reward is that it’s already in place before anyone would ever need to claim it. Your reward has already been put in place and it’s just waiting to be released at the right time of the Lord’s coming.
We have posters announcing lost things with the promise of a monetary reward for anyone who finds the lost item- you can’t go to the door of the owner and say, hey, I’ve come for the reward for the lost item! Their question will be- where is it? And you’ll say, I didn’t find it, but I spent hours looking and am going to keep looking. You must meet the demand of the reward to claim it, so it is with the Lord’s reward, according to Isaiah 40:10, we must meet the demands of the reward-those made free by Him.
But with the Lord, He says “I’ll pay and reward you just for looking. I’ll bless you just for seeking me. I’ll reward you just for coming to church. I’ll show you favour just for getting up in the morning and meditating on my promises.”
The reward is in the seeking. The reward is in making the effort according to Matthew 6:33.
Apostle Peter asked Jesus a question in Matthew 19:27 but instead of rebuking Pete, Jesus them a reward for their sacrifices. The faithful Apostles and believers will rule with him.
But even now there are rewards, Jesus says everyone who has left something or someone to follow Him will be rewarded in Matthew 19:29.
It’s reassuring and joyful that God’s reward is not according to what we deserve but according to His unfailing love and faithfulness. Because of our sinful nature, death is what we deserve according to Romans 6:23 but by promising to reward us, God helps sustain us during tests of integrity. Besides enjoying rich spiritual blessings now, we eagerly look forward to even greater blessings in eternal glory 1 Timothy 4:8. The rewards and crowns that we receive upon meeting the Lord will be ours for all eternity. Though you may have earned them on earth, they are gifts of loving gratitude, shared by the One who made it possible to earn them.
Shalom
