2 Samuel 22
We all would like to have someone defend us when needed, especially when we are overwhelmed with a situation that is outside our control. One person who knows God intimately as his deliverer was David. David documented so many ways of calling God his deliverer as preserved in Psalm 18. I am so glad that God is my deliverer because I sure cannot deliver myself or wait for any man to come to my rescue in times of trouble. In fact, Psalm 50:15 encourages us to call out to God if we needed deliverance and He will deliver us, we weren’t told to call out to man or depend on ourselves for deliverance.
David too realized that God was His deliverer. If you have read up about David, you’ll know he had many enemies, but he continually praised God for being his deliverer.
David never looked to man for help, he never depended on his prowess as a warrior neither but on God. God promised to consistently and divinely guarantee the defend the city of Jerusalem against foreign attack for His namesake according to 1 Kings 19:34, how much more then would He defend you born of the Spirit of God.
You and I are in a very real struggle in everyday life. It is a daily battle waged against Satan and his demons and his world. The conflict is very real, and to make matters even more difficult, it is one that is against an enemy that we cannot see, we need divine help for every area of life to win.
A lot of us will probably not know how many times the Lord carried us away safely, how many times He delivered us from trouble, or helped us escape a situation. Psalm 106:43.
Do we call upon our Lord in every struggle? Do we trust in Him to do battle for us? We should take an example from the psalm and find assurance that our enemy cannot accomplish his will and his desire to frustrate us, defeat us and kill us. We are soldiers in God’s army and looking at our scripture text, we realise David knew that very well and that is why he could use 15 adjectives to describe God as his deliverer.
According to 2 Samuel, chapter 22 GOD IS:
The rock
The fortress
The deliverer
The shield
The horn of my salvation
The high tower
The refuge
The Saviour
The stay
The rewarder
The lamp
The strength and power
The guide
The avenger
The tower of Salvation
Do you know of anyone else who can deliver as God do? A parent may be, a friend, child, or a spouse? There is only one God who can deliver. We have access to this deliverer, The One and Only God, The Creator of the Universe, The One who knows you and me and everything about us. What is man that He would be mindful of us? I’m glad He is and that He loves, cares, and delivers. Aren’t You?
Shalom
