GOD IS OUR DELIVERER

2 Samuel 22

God is our deliverer! This is David’s song of thanksgiving to the Lord for delivering him from mortal danger. David was one man who knew God intimately as his deliverer, he documented so many ways of calling God his deliverer as preserved in Psalm 18. I am so glad that God is my deliverer because I sure cannot deliver myself or wait for any man to come to my rescue in times of need and danger. If you’ve read up about David, you’ll know he had many enemies, but he continually praised God for always coming to his rescue and delivering him out of the many dangers he found himself.
We are all in very real struggle in daily life and it is a daily battle waged against Satan and his demons and his world. The conflict is very real, and to make matters even more difficult, it is one that is against an enemy that we cannot see, in which we need divine help for every area of life.
David in his distress called on the Lord in Vs7 and thank God, for hearing him, as He hears us when we call upon Him in times of distress. It’s so great that God, the King of kings hears the cry and call of mortal men like us. David called God his strong Fortress, recognising that God does not want to just give us strength; He wants to be our Strength.
A lot of us will probably not know how many times the Lord carried us away safely, how many times He delivered us from trouble, or helped us escape a situation we were either unaware of or couldn’t manage. Psalm 106:43.
Do we call upon the Lord in every struggle? Do we trust in Him to do battle for us? We should take an example from the psalms and find assurance that our enemy cannot accomplish his will and his desire to frustrate us, defeat us and kill us. We are soldiers in God’s army and looking at our scripture text, we realise David knew that very well and that is why he could use 15 adjectives to describe God his deliverer.
According to 2 Samuel 22 GOD IS:
My rock
My fortress
My deliverer
My shield
The horn of my salvation
My high tower
My refuge
My Saviour
My stay
My rewarder
My lamp
My strength and power
My guide
My avenger
The tower of Salvation
We require and plead for deliverance from God in many areas of our lives, especially in spiritual matters, knowing that God will even deliver us preserved from his judgment or wrath.
Do you know of anyone else who can deliver besides God? A parent may be, a friend, a child, or a spouse? There is only one God who can deliver. We have access to this deliverer, the One and Only God, The Creator of the Universe, The One who knows you and everything about you. What is man that He would be mindful of us? I am glad He is and that He loves, cares, and delivers. Aren’t You?
Shalom
