Isaiah 59:1-5 AMP
Behold, the LORD’S hand is not so short That it cannot save, Nor His ear so impaired That it cannot hear. [2] But your wickedness has separated you from your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. [3] For your hands are defiled with blood And your fingers with wickedness [with sin, with injustice, with wrongdoing]; Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue mutters wickedness. [4] No one sues righteously [but for the sake of doing injury to others—to take some undue advantage], and no one pleads [his case] in truth; [but rather] They trust in empty arguments and speak lies; They conceive trouble and bring forth injustice. [5] They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s webs; He who eats of their eggs dies, And from an egg which is crushed a viper breaks out.
HELLO GOD! FATHER CAN YOU HEAR ME! WHY ARE YOU NOT ANSWERING ME! We seem to think God is cupping His hands around His ears when we call, saying, “speak up please, I can’t hear you, can you be a little bit louder? Come on, shout louder.
Sadly, shouty capital is how so many communicate with the Father. We think the louder we pray, the more commanding or desperate our voices, the more chances that the Lord will hear.
The Israelites in our text, like us today, complain that God does not come to our aid or hears our cry, but He declares throughout the scriptures that He’ll hear and answer whenever we call on Him. God’s not the problem, we are!
We come to the Lord with a petulant, aggressive, and shouty tone, thinking that’s the only way we can get Him to hear us but according to Psalm 94:9, will the one that planted the ear not hear?
Our text went further to say God doesn’t hear because of our iniquities, our unfaithfulness, and unbelief, so, when our prayers are unanswered, it’s not because God cannot hear them-it may simply be that He refuses to hear?
If God is silent—If God doesn’t answer in a way that leaves no doubt that He hears us, we shall be as dead men, Psalm 28:1.
God’s not deaf! He hears! He answers! But we must be alighted in His will and purposes. Psalm 66:18 tells us that God would not answer because of the iniquity in our hearts and unrepentant sin.
Jeremiah 33:3 encourages us that the only way we can receive deeper revelation from God is to call on Him; since the Lord is not deaf, it means He intends to answer when we call.
You shall call upon me—we must continue to pray for all of God’s blessings to come our way, when we call, He will answer, and He will give us whatever is best for us. God will be with us in trouble literally, He will be there to deliver us. Psalm 91:15.
Isaiah 65:24 says that God will answer us and give us our desires even before we call. But when He answers, we are amazed that He answered, exclaiming that “God heard me!” of course He did.
We’ve been in Christian gatherings where we are told such things as; “that amen or hallelujah is too small for God,” “shout a loud amen, hallelujah,” “open your mouth and pray louder.” Seriously? Do we need to shout for God to hear us?
One of the most profound biblical prayers is Hannah’s. An example of silent prayer is Hannah’s inaudible petition recorded in 1 Samuel 1:10, 13, but it does not give specific instructions on praying silently. That does not mean that silent prayer is any less valid than praying out loud—Hannah’s prayer was answered, after all. God can hear our thoughts just as easily as He can hear our words, Psalm 139:23; Jeremiah 12:3. Nothing we do, say, or think is hidden from God, He doesn’t need to hear our words to know our thoughts. He hears all prayers directed to Him, whether loud or silent, you don’t need to shout. God is not deaf!
Shalom
