Matthew 6:25-34 (BBE)
25 So I say to you, Take no thought for your life, about food or drink, or about clothing for your body. Is not life more than food, and the body more than its clothing?
26 See the birds of heaven; they do not put seeds in the earth, they do not get in grain, or put it in store-houses; and your Father in heaven gives them food. Are you not of much more value than they?
27 And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller?
28 And why are you troubled about clothing? See the flowers of the field, how they come up; they do no work, they make no thread:
29 But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.
30 But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith?
31 Then do not be full of care, saying, What are we to have for food or drink? or, With what may we be clothed?
32 Because the Gentiles go in search of all these things: for your Father in heaven has knowledge that you have need of all these things:
33 But let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these other things will be given to you in addition.
34 Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes.
“Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright.” Even the world tells you not to worry about anything. We must see worry as someone paying interest for a problem that is yet to or may never occur!
Worry is like a dog backing after every passer-by but not able to bite because of their restrains, the backing does not scare the passer-by because they know the dog is restrained and therefore harmless.
Life is full of worries, whichever way you look at it. We worry over everything, even things as mundane as what to wear and what to eat.
“How do I pay the bill?” “How will my children do this or that?” “How am I going to manage?” Matthew 6:25.
Worry overwhelms the best of us, and we can find ourselves feeling pretty miserable and depressed-however the bible tells us not to worry-which may not be helpful in the face of your overwhelming circumstances but Jesus commands us not to worry but to trust in God who knows us well, what we need and is capable of meeting those needs, Philippians 4:19. The question in vs 27, which of you can change the situation by worrying? Is one we must ask ourselves frequently. It will help us focus on God’s abundant provisions and not on our lack and needs.
So, how do you stop worrying? Life would be so easy if all you need to do to stop worrying is say to yourself “that’s it, no more worrying.” Unfortunately, it’s not that easy and we do worry a lot, about anything and everything.
Now, according to Philippians 4:6, when you get to the state of mind where you are overly concerned about something or someone and stressing, even from genuine concern which Jesus did not prohibit, but He did teach that we should keep things in their proper perspective, your first response should be Supplication—continuance in earnest prayer, with thanksgiving, for innumerable favours already received; and for dangers, evils, and deaths averted.
Worry will creep in a lot of times but learn to do as Apostle Paul instructed in 2 Corinthians 10:5, take the worrying thoughts captive, which means every time you start to worry about “things,” you must take the thoughts to God. Can anyone make a difference in their life by worrying? Luke 12:25 asks if you if anyone can grow taller or extend their life span by even an hour by worrying, because every time we are anxious, or worry about our future, we assume that God is unable to control what happens to us, He is in control, and we have nothing to fear or worry about if we put our trust in Him.
Whatever things concern a child of God, whether they be spiritual or temporal, or whether in themselves great or small, God concerns himself with them; what affects you affects him; in all your afflictions he is afflicted. He who knows that God cares for him need have no worrying thoughts about himself. 1 Peter 5:7.
Do not worry! Do not be anxious! Do not be moved! You have God’s assurance of His sustenance and supply.
Shalom
