CHRISTIANESE!

Hebrews 7:18-19 (NLT2)
18 Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless.
19 For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

What is Christianese you’ll ask? This is the ability people have of using the scriptures in an upside-down way that devalues, weakens, and make the word of God unprofitable.
I have lost count of the number of times I’ve heard people use trite comments which they think makes them look and sound like people of faith. We make trite comments daily that makes us sound very pious and religious.
People say what they think you want to hear because they are Christians rather than say what they mean and the fact of the matter, see Job 15:3.
Christianese have become a normal and acceptable pattern of expressing our faith- when to some extent it could be a lie and an act of positive thinking.
Motivational speaking and the power of positive thoughts or speech have become the order of the day in our society-even preachers have adopted this style of speaking, we have faith leaders telling us “it is well” when it’s not, telling us just wait on God when you’ve not done any praying at all. We hear things like “I am well” instead of saying “I don’t feel well but I’m trusting God for healing” and lots more.
Are we to continue in sin, that grace may abound? Asks Romans 6:1. But the message of the cross is now so watered down that we’re been taught that our salvation depends to some degree upon our good works, and not on Christ. There’s so much Christianese added to the word of God that we don’t even realise our words are powerless and unprofitable against the doctrines of a purely gratuitous justification, we know that this is a perversion of grace and faith.
A motivational speech is intended to motivate, encourage, convince, or inspire the audience to take action for change or improvement, emphasis more on the “convince” part. Motivational speeches aim to change the perspective of the audience toward a certain issue or idea.
Isaiah 28:9-10 talks of whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will He make to understand instruction? A normal practice of motivational speaking is to constantly repeat their lines—Vs 10 expresses the scorn of such speaking.
Speakers deliver motivational speeches to encourage the audience to do something about a certain issue or matter. Therefore, speakers need to sound and appear enthusiastic to be able to stimulate the audience, even when they don’t believe what they’re saying. What they say is more for the audience than from their conviction of faith-Matthew 7:16.
The majority of a motivational speech is made from observation and intended for you to deepen our work strength, your power and ability to overcome your situation and not on God- to encourage you to see God as the “father” up in heaven who will not ignore his children’ sin, needs and mistakes, you hear things like God will understand, God won’t mind their waywardness or discipline them.
God is a righteous judge according to Psalm 7:11 and will not tolerate, accept, or understand sin, Habakkuk 1:13 no matter what others tell us or how much we repeat the trite mantra or believe what we hear and speak.
Faith and salvation are not based on your works or your upside-down use of the scripture and certainly not on the many time you repeat meaningless and weak words. Christianese does not move God, faith does.
Shalom
