ACCEPTABLE APPAREL

1 Timothy 2:9 (BBE)
And that women may be dressed in simple clothing, with a quiet and serious air; not with twisted hair and gold or jewels or robes of great price;

Does God care about how we dress and what we wear? Is there a spiritual or biblical dress code? The bible does not necessarily give us an exact code of dressing but gives us patterns and principles of clothing befitting our calling as children of God and ambassadors of Christ and heaven.
1 Peter 3:3 says our clothing should not be skin cover, not the elaborate braiding of women’s hair and the wearing of attention-grabbing jewellery instead, he warns against being more concerned about personal appearance than personal character.
Look around you, all you’ll see is flesh! Flesh! flesh! Both men and women go about naked or half-naked in the name of fashion. Unfortunately, it’s within the Christian community, even among leaders.
Where did the modest, decent, and appropriate form of dressing go? Women dresses and skirts seem to shrink daily, people spend their money to buy rags and call it designers, you can see the pores on some people from the tightness and transparent clothing they have on and the shorts might as well be underwear as it covers nothing.
Every form of clothing has become a highly sexualized item, creating a society of “less is better” with people displaying body parts as an acceptable and normal way of dressing.
When Adam and Eve sinned, in Genesis 3:6–7, and they became aware of their nakedness. The shame pushed them to sew fig leaves as covering. So, even from the beginning, clothing has symbolized the need to cover our sin and shame. That shame has somehow disappeared from society, that people even walk around naked than covered.
If one was invited to see the queen, they would look for the most affordable and queen-worthy outfit to buy but that same person is okay appearing in the presence of the creator of the universe in scanty clothing, so tight that they struggle to breathe and so transparent yet as Christians we should dress modestly, specifically not dressing sexually. It means to dress appropriately for the occasion.
Adults are supposed to act as role models to the younger generation but even the older people dress worse than children.
How we dress tells a lot about our character. A short skirt and a top that reveals the breast is not a woman you want to be in your front office, proverbs 7:10 calls her a prostitute.
Immodest and inappropriate clothing can attract the wrong people around you. When people dress like this, they may get the attention of bad people out there that may harm them if you know what I mean.
The unbeliever can follow all the social and celebrity trend they like but for the Christian woman, her apparel should portray Christ, not the inappropriate clothing of the world that don’t portray her as a Christian. Her clothing or dressing should not be rooted in external things that are over the top to make her look good and attractive to men.
Godly character should be reflected in our apparel, as we see around us, the worldly standard is unacceptable. We mustn’t dress in ways that attract inappropriate attention either by underdressing or overdressing but be clothed with strength and dignity according to proverbs 32:22. Store-bought beauty, external beauty and unacceptable apparel give a false impression of you and the Lord.
Shalom
