Exodus 23:29-30 (Darby)
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year: lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou art fruitful, and possess the land.
The principle of little by little is a spirit lifter because it’s amazing that a God so big will take baby steps to march mine for His process to be completed in my life without any help from me.
The promised land was more than sufficient to accommodate the population of the Israelites and all believers that wherever we need to be, God will make room for us according to Joshua 1:3.
God promised the Israelites a land abundant with material wealth and to provide for their daily needs.
They thought, “Wow God, thanks.” But what they didn’t know at the time was that they were going to have to endure many tests, hardships and wait several decades to see the fulfilment of God’s word. Not only that but that God was going to do it “little by little.”
little by little! Are you kidding God? We just waited forty years and you’re still going to make us wait some more?”
Sound familiar? You’ve waited for the fulfilment of God’s promises for a while only for the Lord to tell you, it will be done little by little.
We all mentally live in the here and now attitude and are impatient to wait for the completion of God’s process.
God’s system and time are different, and we may not like the process.
Little by little, I will drive them out from before you, until you increase and inherit the land.” That is, the children of Israel could not defeat their enemies and take possession of the promised land in one day on their own, not in a week, month, nor year. But little by little, in time by the power of God, the children of Israel to grow strong to defeat their enemies, then would they inherit the land of Canaan.
The principle of little by little assures us that every puzzle piece will fit the bigger picture when they all come together, some things must be done little by little because it’s the only way to succeed. The process is as important as the destination and as Zachariah 4:10 states, we must not detest starting small. So, do not detest the journey of little by little.
The principles of little by little applies both to the physical and spiritual. You may not know the bible well right now and you may feel spiritually weak, and that you are not where you should be with your walk with Christ. But little by little, if you start praying daily, read the bible one portion daily, start attending prayer meetings or bible studies frequently, and start taking interest in the ministry or the church, little by little, you will start growing in your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Remember that Rome was not built in a day but little by little. Likewise, you are not going to grow spiritually in one day. You can only grow in the Lord little by little.
Sometimes God’s work in our lives is instantaneous, but more often, it follows a process and that’s for our good. While you are interested in the destination, God is interested in the journey because it’s through the journey He makes you.
Shalom
