John 14:15 AMPC
If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.
Christianity is believed to be the most popular religion in the world with over two billion followers. Forty-two million Britons see themselves as nominal Christians, and there are six million who are actively practising, but we cannot reject the truth of the scriptures, Christianity is not a religion but a way of life and a walk of faith according to 2 Corinthians 3:6, the letter (spirit of religion) kills. Even among the “practising Christians” you still find people who disregard certain aspects of the scripture, seeing them as outdated and irrelevant today.
How many of us select the portions of scriptures we accept and believe in?
We hear people say things like, “tithing is of the OT and not meant for us, but they want to lay claim to the blessings of Abraham.
If we understand the principles of God, we will know that spirituality is not part of His word. According to Matthew 24:35, everything else will fade except the word of God which is the Spirit that gives life since it is the word that grants us the power to keep the letter.
In the same way, people select what instructions and commands to accept, obey and apply to their lives. But the bible is clear on the content and contexts of the bible and its place in our lives as stated in Timothy 3:16.
God judges both the heart and motive of our actions, oftentimes, we do godly things with the wrong motives, and we wonder why God’s response is not what we expected.
David was angry with God in 1 Chronicles 13:1-14 over Uzza’ death, but David may well be responsible for that death through his religious actions.
Facts: only the priest was to carry the Ark, Uzza and his brother, though Levites were not priests.
The Ark was to be carried on the shoulders of the priests according to Numbers 4:15, not on a cart as David did.
David boasted in Psalm 119:97 that he studied God’s law but not well enough to miss, ignore or forget the obvious requirements of God. David assumed like so many today that the spirit of serving God and our activities will be more important than God’s requirements of us. Just as Uzza died, because of David’s inattention to God’s word, others may die, and we may also be responsible because we choose to mislead others by how we portray God.
Paul religiously terrorised the believers with a heart of service to God, only when he met Jesus, did he realise his action was religious.
We may serve God with deep love and joy, but His holiness cannot be ignored and placated with religious fervour, which is what David displayed. Our motives are as important as our actions, states Jeremiah 17:10, because God knows the content of our hearts and the context of our actions.
Religious Christianity has no place in God because it only picks and chooses what to do, believe, and hear but John 4:24 say Spirit and truth are needed to follow, serve, and worship the Lord.
Be zealous for God but on His terms, principles, instructions, and commands not through religion and fervour.
Christianity is not about a man or religion. Christianity is about a relationship.
Shalom
