2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
Franklin Roosevelt said, “there’s nothing to fear but fear itself.” According to the Bible, fear is a liar; FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.
Fear is the natural emotional response to a perceived threat to one’s security or general welfare. It ranges in the degree of intensity from a sense of anxious worry to utter terror. It can be a useful emotion when it leads to appropriate caution or measures that would guard one’s welfare. But fear can be a hindrance to enjoying life if it’s induced by delusion and if it lingers and overpowers positive emotions such as love and joy, which may create an inability to engage in normal activities of life.
Fear is a bondage and a spirit, but God says He hasn’t given us that spirit but has given us the spirit of power, to work miracles, to confound enemies, to support us in trials, and enable us to do that which is lawful and right in his sight. And of love, which enables us to hear, believe, hope, and endure all things. Of a sound mind, of self-possession, which implies a clear understanding, a sound judgment, that is, the whole soul harmonized in all its powers and faculties; influenced by the Spirit of God.
The enemy uses fear to keep us from praising the Lord but Psalm 34:4 say He will deliver us from all fears, including the fear of violence and uncertainty.
So many people are living in fear that is worsened by the constant consumption of toxic media. Fear itself is a key factor in making social, financial, and virtually every problem seems bigger and worse than it is.
Fear is a spirit of torment sent out by the enemy, no surprise there, the fight is not against flesh and blood enemies according to Ephesians 6:12 but against the one who John 10:10 states come to steal, to kill, and to destroy.
Fear has the power to steal the miracles that God wants to do in you, and through you. Peter in Matthew 14:24-31 was on the edge of greatness, but fear stole his miracle.
When we are afraid, the mind is not well-balanced as God describes in James 1:6-8, saying a double-minded person, walking in fear and doubt, can’t receive of Him. We mustn’t all fear cause our faith to waver. This is what the spirit of fear wants to do to us, to make us unstable, unreliable, and uncertain about everything by attacking our thoughts and God’s promises, everything with fear. Anyone who has ever been afraid can attest to the truth of that scripture.
Is fear real? Yes, it is but it’s not the truth, because whatever we’re afraid of is subject to the name of Jesus and the word of God.
Fear can dominate our lives by anxiety, procrastination, and addictions but before we allow these to overcome us, remember that fear is outnumbered 3-to-1, by Power, love, and a sound mind. Let the perfect love of God according to 1 John 4:18 banish every fear in you. Do not fear! Commands the Lord all through the scriptures. Don’t allow the fear of something happening to stop you from doing something.
Shalom
