Genesis 3:11-13 (MSG)
11 GOD said, “Who told you you were naked? Did you eat from that tree I told you not to eat from?”
12 The Man said, “The Woman you gave me as a companion, she gave me fruit from the tree, and, yes, I ate it.”
13 GOD said to the Woman, “What is this that you’ve done?” “The serpent seduced me,” she said, “and I ate.”
Denial of personal responsibility is rife in every culture and generation, especially now. The bible is noticeably clear that every human being is responsible for their decisions, behaviour, and relationships. We are responsible to one another and to the laws of society, but ultimately, we are responsible to God who will judge the living and the dead according to 2 Timothy 4:1.
It didn’t take mankind long to learn to play the blame game and we can see that with Adam’s first response to God when confronted over his sin, he tried to wiggle out of his responsibility and blamed everyone rather than accept responsibility for his actions.
Numbers 1:50-51 state that the Levites had a specific responsibility assigned to them by God; the responsibility to take care of and to transport God’s Tabernacle. Taking care of a tent may not seem like a holy responsibility, but God considered it important that a non-Levite who assumes this duty would be executed.
We are called to specific tasks and are to take these tasks serious and wholehearted diligence. Some of our responsibilities may seem boring or dull but it is important to God that we fulfil them fully.
Do you take responsibility for your actions? Denial of personal responsibility is a pandemic in our society. God and man have given us responsibilities in certain areas but rather than carry them out, most of us are like Pilate in Matthew 27:15-26, we wash our hands off and leave things to others to do. How about the way you dispense the power and authority you have over those in your sphere of influence? It doesn’t matter the outcome of the action; we still need to take responsibility for them.
Paul reminds us of our responsibilities in Romans 12:6-8, whatever gift we have, he urges us to develop and to use them responsibly for the entire community of faith.
We all have a vital role to play in the body of Christ based on the gifts we’ve been blessed with.
Christian responsibilities include a deliberate and intense daily study of the bible according to 2 Peter 1:21.
It is our Christian responsibility to exhibit Godly character, develop and have the right attitude toward our spouses, children, parents, siblings, neighbours, co-workers, and fellow Christians.
A consistent and fervent daily prayer life is the personal responsibility of every Christian, one we should maintain strictly. Jesus said, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you in Matthew 7:7, only through prayer can we do this. The Christian life must be a life of daily prayer.
Before you can fulfil your Christian responsibility, you must first become a Christian. The Bible says, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Galatians 3:26-27, if you are a Christian then my question to you is, are you fulfilling your Christian responsibility? Have you identified your gifts and the responsibilities those gifts involve? We are each responsible for our own behaviour and bear the consequences- now and eternity, so, take responsibility for all you do.
Shalom
