WHERE ARE YOU?

Genesis 3:9 (AMP)
9 But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

The Bible says that God is after you to save us from the judgment our sin deserves. He is graciously calling, “Where are you?” Vs 9. If we will come to Him and confess our sin, He will deliver us from Satan’s domain of darkness and transfer us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we will have redemption, the forgiveness of sins Colossians. 1:13-14.
The events of this chapter tell us that we mirror Adam and Eve’s, we feature in the story, we’ve all eaten from the tree, and we all hide from God.
So, what is the meaning of God’s question, “where are you?” was God really unaware of the location, whereabout and position of His creation? Did God misplace His creation out of carelessness? Was He unable to find them where they were hiding? No! the Lord knew exactly where Adam and Eve were, He could see them, He didn’t misplace them because God is not careless in any way according to Philippians 2:20, God is interested in everything we do. What about Adam’s answer? “I was afraid….so I hid”.
The picture of God in this chapter is of a God graciously seeking the guilty sinners to provide for their restoration. He promises them victory over the tempter. It is a chapter that gives us, as guilty sinners, great hope. We see that God graciously seeks, confronts, and offers reconciliation to the guilty sinner. We should deal with our guilt, not by hiding from Him, but by coming to God and acknowledging our sin. Jesus said in John 6:37, “The one who comes to Me, I will certainly not cast out.”
The Lord is asking a very personal question intertwined with the question to Adam: what are you doing, with your gifts, talents, skills? What are you going to do now? How are you going to handle the reality you have chosen? Are you going to remain hidden in shame or step out into the open to face the truth? These are questions that keep this chapter alive in our present generation. They should encourage us to reflect daily on where we are per time and season.
God begins His relationship with every man with questions, He seeks out those who are hiding among the trees in shame, who have pitched together clothing of their own making, who are afraid of God and are hoping to avoid Him. Where are you? Have you walked away from the Lord and think it’s too late to reconnect with Him?
THE Lord walks among the garden of life, seeking to restore relationships because He is a loving and relationship-oriented God.
Ironically, we think it strange for God to ask us “where are you,” but we ask God the same question all the time. Have you seen Psalm 10? it opens with this question, “Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide in times of trouble?” These questions come from a place of genuine concern and misunderstanding of the nature of God. So, understand that God’s question for you is from genuine concern for the precious creation that is made in His likeness and image. Find the answer within you and answer the Lord if you haven’t.
Shalom
