Psalm 120:1-7 (AMP)
1 IN MY distress I cried to the Lord, and He answered me.
2 Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
3 What shall be given to you? Or what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue?—
4 Sharp arrows of a [mighty] warrior, with [glowing] coals of the broom tree!
5 Woe is me that I sojourn with Meshech, that I dwell beside the tents of Kedar [as if among notoriously barbarous people]!
6 My life has too long had its dwelling with him who hates peace.
7 I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
Help! Where does our help come from? Where do you look for help? We hear stories of people seeking help from someone or somewhere they are certain to find help only to be disappointed and let down.
The beginning of Psalm 121 says to look up to the hill: Jerusalem was built upon a mountain, and Judea was a mountainous country; and the Jews, in their Diaspora, turned towards Jerusalem when they offered up their prayers to God believing that God was on the hill. God is everywhere, He is the God of the hills and valley, 1 kings 20:28.
There is no help for us but in God; and we should expect help from no other quarter. Although the Lord admonishes us not to put trust and hope in “man,” Jeremiah 17:5, He will still use man to do whatever we ask Him to do.
We all need help, especially the divine help of God.
God orchestrates situations where He sends us divine, assigned, approved, and ordained helpers. This is somebody that has a godly mandate to come to your help, irrespective of location, status, and need.
The case of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9, shows us how far God will go to send us the right help even when we don’t know we need one or ask for one. Mephibosheth did not ask for help, but divine help and favour were about to locate him whether he knew it or asked for it.
Five Reasons You Need Divine Help:
All the help one needs is found in life’s greatest self-help Manual, the bible: it is not just another great book but God’s word, given by God himself.
Let the bible be your staff in life and your firm foundation.
- Man is limited in nature.
- The family foundation is limiting.
- There is gender limitation.
- Our environment and geographical location may be limiting. Never allow your environment to limit you though.
- Age could be a limitation for some.
Any of these can stop us from receiving much-needed help if a man is the only one in control of our destinies but Psalm 54:4 says not only is God our helper, but He is also the one who sustains us. God, whose providence is ever watchful, had foreseen our need for help and made plans for those assigned and approved helpers to locate us at the point of that need.
Divine help assures us we can overcome fear and anxiety when we are locked in a seemingly impossible situation. Isaiah 41:10. We all face a situation where we ask, “where are you Lord,” who will help me,” have no fear, God your helper is still at hand. Psalm 118:7.
Always put your trust in God to help you, He will because His help is the most established, trustworthy, and dependable you could ever have, man’s help at best is worthless. Psalm 60:11.
Our helper in every time of need is the Lord Himself, and every believer can say the Lord is my helper. In this brief statement, we discover that God’s help is adequate because it is divine from the Almighty God Himself – your help comes from the Lord. When you are in need, friends come to your aid, but often they cannot help you because their resources are inadequate.
The Lord’s resources are never inadequate. His name is El-Shaddai, Genesis 17:1, He is more than Enough God.
Shalom
