Matthew 21:1-9 NIV
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, [2] saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. [3] If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” [4] This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: [5] “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” [6] The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. [7] They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. [8] A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. [9] The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Do you have a miserable past? Are your current circumstances negative and depressing? Do you face situations that are so bad it seems you have no real reason to hope? Is your future being determined by your past or your present! Are you stuck in a rut, unable to move forward or make any progress?
We may have experienced or know someone whose life seems to be “at a standstill, not making progress,” because of the situations of life or circumstances they face. For some, they are stuck in time through bad decisions, choices, or through no faults of their own are stuck in a time loop, they can’t move beyond it, they are not going forwards or backward.
Some people are so tied down by stuff that they have not even started living, just like the donkey in our text.
A beast of burden should be out laboring, but this colt has never left the stable, it’s been tied and delayed from living and fulfilling its potentials and purpose for creation.
We only have one life and destiny in Christ, so whatever we do in life must be aligned to the purpose and will of the Father-for whatever you are created for. Those who are not born-again cannot glorify God, just as the colt cannot glorify the Maker by not doing what it was created to do.
What is got you tied down that you can’t move forward? What are the issues of life making you mark time, standing still or feeling delayed?
Fear can be a strong deterrent to life and progress, bereavement and pain can keep one in a time loop and insecurity can delay one from getting out and doing things.
If we allow life to keep us static, we won’t have any work to commit to the Lord, Proverbs 16:3.
Our steps are ordered by the Lord, so how can we make plans, and conduct our daily businesses, independently of the Lord, even in difficult and confusing times, the Lord still once us to do what He has called us to do.
Christ the savior is always looking for those willing to be delivered, the colt was stationary with no idea that it needed to be doing more until the Saviour came and cut the ropes of bondage, stagnation, and delay that has kept the colt marking time, tied and delayed in fulfilling its destiny.
They say when life gives you a lemon, you make lemonade, but some will prefer to either let the lemon rotten or give them away without making use of it: whatever curves life throws us should be used as an opportunity to explore what is inside of us. As the donkey was happy to seat idle in a stable-something against nature, is what a lot of Christians are doing right now-sitting idle and not using that the Lord has given them to the glory of God and for a time like this.
Get a move on, time’s a waste, do not allow circumstances and the enemy to keep you tied up that you don’t notice your destiny being delayed and your potentials not been fulfilled. Christ is waiting to untie you and send you out to do His will and to fulfill your destiny.
Shalom
