COMMITMENT

Deuteronomy 10:12 AMP
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear [and worship] the LORD your God [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect], to walk [that is, to live each and every day] in all His ways and to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul [your choices, your thoughts, your whole being],

One of the serious problems facing the world at large today is that of commitment which no longer seems to be part of our society, even believers, while their lips give service to God, many are not truly committed to Him.
Commitment is the act of taking charge of something and seeing it through, the act of keeping a thing, or trust without wavering. Life is really all about commitment- we commit in all kinds of ways, we are committed to personal, to financial institutions, to matrimonial, we are committed to our families and we must commit to God-spiritual commitment.
God requires total commitment from us, notwithstanding, God does not demand of us anything more we can give but do what is good, Micah 6:8. Commitment isn’t for a while, as we feel, not sometimes but continuous and consistent, totally involved.
The achievement of anything in life requires commitment-whether good or bad, even the scriptures encourage us to commit to the Lord in Psalm 37:5. Commitment involves making the decision to focus on something or someone.
The Christian walk and life should be one with an understanding of and learning to commit our hearts, minds, and bodies to the things of the spirit which is central to a successful life. Commit everything you do to God-psalm 37:5.
Jesus said to His disciples in Luke 14:26-28 that they couldn’t be his disciples if they do not carry their own cross and follow him- that’s the same for us all, we all have to pick up, carry and keep carrying it in commitment for us to qualify as his disciples.
Staying the course or duration of a thing is a must for commitment. How long can you wait for something worthwhile? Are you committed to holding out and holding on for the important things in life?
Luke 2:25-35 tells us that Simon waited for the Messiah, though we weren’t told how long he waited for, he was committed to seeing the manifestation of the prophecy given to him.
Further from Vs 36-38 of Luke, we are told of Anna, an old prophetess who was totally committed to seeing the Christ that she spent her time in the temple daily in fasting and prayer.
Isaiah 29:13 referenced God saying to the Israelites’ of old that they honoured Him with their lips while their hearts are far from Him, the same warning stands today, we are all guilty of going through the motion of worshipping God routinely without committing our “whole being” as the Lord wants us to which is unacceptable to the Lord.
There is a great need for commitment in every part of life, especially in our faith. If we will but commit to Christ our lives and trust, we can have great things.
God requires of us obedience, not an accomplishment. True commitment will result in obedience. If we cannot commit to God in our general daily lives and things to honour and glorify Him, how do we commit our souls to His eternal keeping? 1 Peter 4:19. Salvation is free, but it takes total, painful, determined commitment to working it out.
You can’t ask too much of God!! You simply need to get committed to him.
Shalom
