Romans 10:17 AMPC
So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).
Hearing is the faculty of perceiving sounds: the ability to hear, faculty of hearing, sense of hearing, auditory perception, and the ability to hear well.
Listening, attentive, intentional, and deliberate listening is essential to our walk with God. Our faith is dependent on our hearing the promises of God imbedded in His word.
Sometimes, we get a call on our mobile with someone’s name flashing on the screen but because, we’ve not heard from them for a while or maybe it’s someone we know of but never expect to hear from, we answer the call cautiously, thinking it’s a hoax and then we hear the voice, that’s when we believe because we heard the right voice. Hearing the voice we expect to hear, is what makes us believe.
Using rhetorical questions, Paul in Galatians 3:2 shows us that it is illogical for us to seek a fuller Christian life by keeping the law but rather than receiving the Holy Spirit comes after the saving faith that comes from hearing the word of God.
Jesus calls us the branches that if, attached to the vine in John 15 will bear much fruit but a fruit-bearing life only happens with us hearing the faith-induced word of God. While Luke 8:15 refers to the good soil as the believers who on hearing the word of God, holds fast to it and allows it to pilot their lives.
Are you hearing the word of God that will grow and strengthen your faith or are you allowing the lies of the enemy to penetrate your ears, deceiving you into forgoing the faith-filled word necessary to your spiritual victories?
It’s safe to assume on reading Hebrews 4:2, that the word of God, received by all is not heard by all, implying that our faith level is dependent on our response to the word we hear.
It means that some people hear the word and respond in faith while others don’t.
The secret to our success, victory, productiveness and fruitfulness comes from us hearing the great and hidden things that only the Lord can tell us according to Jeremiah 33:3 but if we’re not listening to His word, how are we going to hear what He’s saying. We must hear, for God only reveal hidden things to those who hear His voice and word.
So, faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ. Hearing the word over time can cause one to come to faith, that is, the good news about Jesus Christ as the crucified and risen Savior.
What we hear is very important to our growth and development, we must learn to discard anything that does not align with the word of God. We must fill our hearts, minds, and spirit with the word of God that maintains our faith and not dwell or acknowledge the lies of the enemy that attacks and destroys our faith.
We must keep the volume of God’s word on the highest voltage and volume, because the more we hear, the more the truth of His promises and blessing seeps into us, causing our faith to rise to an unshakable height.
On that premise, we must pay attention to Hebrew 2:1, and not allow the truth of God’s word to slip past us. Hearing is believing, so hear!
Shalom
