Titus 3:5 (YLT)
(not by works that are in righteousness that we did but according to His kindness,) He did save us, through a bathing of regeneration, and a renewing of the Holy Spirit,
Regeneration simply means new birth, denoting the change of heart of the new life in Christ.
John Piper said, “God’s family, which comes into being by regeneration, is more central and more lasting than the human family that comes into being by procreation.”.
The church of God is preaching messages that do not in any way impact the heart and soul of the hearer. We have many Christians but few believers, people whose hearts, souls and life have been radically changed or reborn from meeting Christ.
The old you become a new person according to 2 Corinthians 5:17, regenerated by the washing of the blood of the Lamb.
We want people to come to Christ but remain who they were without regeneration. They confess Christ as Lord, but their heart and life are not reborn.
R.C. Sproul said “Regeneration is something that is accomplished by God. A dead man cannot raise himself from the dead.”
So true. Even Lazarus from John 11 eventually died and was buried, no dead person can raise themselves from death.
It is the blood of Jesus that purifies our conscience from dead works according to Hebrew 9:14, doing for us what the blood of goats and bulls couldn’t do for us as it did in the Old Testament because the blood of Jesus is the only blood capable of cleansing us as it is without blemish.
Regeneration is passing from death to life according to 1 John 3:14 to become a new creature in Christ Jesus as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17, it is to be being born again declared in John 3:5 with a renewed mind mentioned in Romans 12:2. Regeneration is when our spiritual man is resurrected from spiritual death to seat with Him as seen in Ephesians 2:6.
Regeneration or change is credited to the Holy Spirit.
Webster’s 1913 Unabridged English Dictionary defines regeneration as entering into a new spiritual life, becoming a Christian that is changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Regeneration is a special act of God in which the recipient is passive as God alone awakens the person spiritually through the power of His Holy Spirit.
Perter echoing the text says in 1 Peter 1:23, “Since you have been born again—not of perishable seed but imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.” By no human generation, or earthly means; but of incorruptible—a Divine and heavenly principle which is not liable to decay, nor to be affected by the changes and chances to which all temporal and unspiritual things are exposed
By God’s standards and expectations, the Bible teaches us that man must undergo a spiritual regeneration if we must have a relationship with God or enter His kingdom.
Regeneration begins the process of sanctification where we become the people God intends us to be, otherwise, our lives will become the battlefield of the enemy and contention for our destinies.
A regenerated heart is what Ezekiel 36:26 promises that God would give to those who desire it, changing the infected nature while giving us new passions, appetites, and characters that are purified, refined and sanctified.
Regeneration renews our minds, enlightens our understanding, corrects our judgments, and refines our will so that we have a new spirit to operate our new heart.
Be regenerated!
Shalom
