THE GOD OF SEVERAL CHANCES

Micah 7:18 CSB
Who is a God like you, forgiving iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not hold on to his anger forever because he delights in faithful love.

God is the God of several chances! Imagine if He wasn’t! We have all done things that God would have been justified in giving up on us but that’s not His nature to give up on any as stated in Ezekiel 18:32 that He doesn’t desire the death of anyone.
Consider how many times we walked away from the Lord for whatever reasons while He faithfully pulls us back, waits for us to come back to Him or sends out a search party.
No matter how many times the sheep wanders away from the flock, the good shepherd according to John 10:11, constantly looks out for wandering sheep to rescue them, giving them another undeserved chance.
Sometimes life will make us walk away from the Lord because of guilt, shame or disappointment and the enemy will want us to believe that God won’t have us back nor will He give us another chance but that’s not true.
We mess up so fast and so often that without another chance, we will certainly be doomed.
Psalm 86:15 tells us how gracious, merciful, and patient God is, that facet of His character is the reason He gives us chances after chances.
The Israeli army was defeated at Ai in Joshua 7 because they broke faith but after they repented and cleaned house, the Lord gave them another chance at overcoming their enemy in chapter 8.
The same way God gave several chances to the Israelites at their continuous disobedience of His laws is the same way He gives us several chances.
If God does not forgive us and give us another chance, who would, who would we turn to and who else can deliver us from the enemy?
Peter saw himself as grounded in Christ, Afterall, he’d spent three years with Him, imagine his surprise at Jesus telling him that he would deny Jesus, which he did in Matthew 26:69-72 but in John 21:15-19, Jesus gave him another chance and he went to become the rock on which the church is built.
What if Peter hadn’t accepted the second chance Jesus offered him, unlike Judas Iscariot in Matthew 27:1-5, who hanged himself rather than face his guilt, not accepting another chance from God, because he thought his sin was too grave.
Are you too feeling like you’re too far gone to be given another chance? Some are willing to walk away from God into eternal damnation than turn away from the path of destruction by accepting God’s pardon and several chances.
There are many others mentioned in the bible that received second, third and more chances such as Jonah, Mark, Samson, David, and others.
All these people, like you and me, are trophies of God’s grace and we will get second and more chances because we accepted them when offered.
When someone offends us, we ought to give them a second chance, not because we trust them not to offend again but trusting that they will demonstrate repentance and not abuse our trust again.
God’s highest second chance was offered in the form of Christ’s death but if we continue to reject Him, He withdraws the offer that ends at death, when no more chances are offered. You have another chance now, use it wisely!
Shalom
