UNITED IN BLESSING

Psalm 133:1-3 (HCSB)
1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
2 It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the beard, running down Aaron’s beard onto his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. For there the LORD has appointed the blessing— life forevermore.

The popular motto “united we stand, divided we fall,” often shortened to “united we stand,” is commonly used to express unity and collaboration. The phrase is used to encourage and inspire and sends the message that working together is easier and better, because there is strength in numbers, whereas doing things alone is harder and froth with failure.
It is no different in the Christian walk, there is a cooperative blessing for those united in Christ. Fellowship unites us in blessing and vice versa.
Our text tells us there is a blessing in fraternal unity.
The fragrant oil of God is refreshing and delightful to believers. The profusion typifies the abundance and extravagance of God’s grace. As the dew that falls on mount Hermon, falls in fertilizing power on mount Zion, so is unity meant to help believers in fruitful good works.
Ephesians 4:12 implies that blessing has little to do with individual divine favour and protection and more to do with divine communion that fosters unity and intimacy between God and His people, and unity amongst God’s people.
When believers walk together and operate in peace, love, and unity, it reflects the attitude and heart of Christ.
The opening verse says how good and pleasant it is, meaning that God will delight believers who walk in unity and love with everything good, lovely, and attractive. Considering that Jesus’ ultimate prayer is for all men in Him to be “one, united.” I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity” according to John 17:22-23.
When we walk in unity, the “united we stand” becomes a lethal weapon in the fight against evil and brings down the rain of blessing we seek.
There is something wonderful about fellowshipping with people of like mind regardless of who they are and where they are from. When we meet them, we feel like we have known them forever and the conversations we have with them are so easy and not forced or uneasy because of the bond of love and unity in Christ.
We live in extreme times and there seems to be disunity, division, and competition in every sector of society, including the church, there is a desperate need in people to outdo each other in everything, even believers are trying to outdo themselves and unbelievers alike in business, ministry, church growth and personal lives.
Believers’ responsibilities to one another should be of the utmost importance to encourage by love to do well in all things and not fall, by the way, abandoning the communal, cooperative, and united gathering of faithful believers, see Hebrews 10:24-25 and to not only attend spiritual gatherings but to remember that as children of light and day, we cannot be like the children of night and darkness mentioned in 1 John 1:7.
We must understand that the oil running down from Aaron’s face and downwards means our spiritual blessings are interconnected and woven, when one person gets blessed, we all do, there is nothing like individual or lone blessings in God’s kingdom. When we are united, united in blessings, we receive the portion due us in every community fellowship and gathering.
We are united in blessing.
Shalom
