Proverbs 23:7 ESV
for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
Thinking! This is the faculty of thought, and cogitative process, capable of a regular train of ideas, the act of thinking, mode of thinking, imagination, and judgment.
Our text tells us that we become what we think. Where the mind goes, the man certainly follows.
We think as we act and act as we think, our thought patterns affect our life, and how we behave, speak and act.
Romans 12:2 says we should be changed, transfigured, and be new people, with new habits, implying a radical, thorough, and universal change, both outward and inward.
What do you think?
Our thoughts are very important to the manifestations of God’s word and expression of His promises in our lives because He alone sees the innermost part that isn’t visible to another: our thoughts.
Philippians 4:8 gives a list of virtuous things we should think about such as.
Think about whatsoever things are true. All that is agreeable to unchangeable and eternal truth.
Think on whatsoever things are honest—Whatever is grave, decent, and venerable. Whatever becomes you as men, as citizens, and as Christians.
Think of whatsoever things are just. Whatsoever is agreeable to justice and righteousness. All that we owe to God, to our neighbour, and ourselves.
Think on whatsoever things are pure. Whatsoever is chaste, referring to the state of the mind, and the body.
Think about whatsoever things are lovely. Enough of dwelling on the ugliness in the world, think and focus on the beauty of God and creation.
Think on whatsoever things are of good report, Isaiah 53:1 asks whose report will you believe? So, think upon things the public agrees to acknowledge as useful and profitable to men that are aligned with the scriptures, such as charitable institutions of every kind, in which believers should take the lead.
Think about these things—Esteem them highly and practice them fervently, think about these things. As believers, we must fill our minds with things that inspire us and others to worship and service God and others.
What are you thinking of? Are your thoughts more on your circumstances, fear, need and inabilities?
Why not think about godly things that are guaranteed to change the trajectory of your life. Why not think as one who hears the word of God constantly according to Romans 10:7 and allow the word to determine their thoughts which in turn raise their faith to become what they think.
According to Matthew 15:18-19, whatever comes out of your mouth is fuelled by what and how you think, saying evil thoughts brings wicked dialogues, envy, and murder. As a man thinks, is who and what he becomes.
Put your think on! Think about life-transforming, changing, and godly thoughts not ones that become a snare to life and poison to your soul.
The thoughts of our hearts are as important as our words to the Lord according to Ephesians 3:20. The Lord hears all that we ask or think, we can think of or imagine, goods and blessings beyond all that we have either read of or seen, we can imagine more than even God has specified in his word. God can do more for us than we can ask or think, and his ability here is connected to our thoughts. So, put your think on!
Shalom
