CRITERIA OF SERVICE

Genesis 24

Criteria are the principle or standards by which something may be judged or decided. It is the guideline governing the qualification for an assignment.
There is a criterion for certain positions, professions, and opportunities in every sphere of society.
There are special measures of expectation in the kingdom agenda and mandates.
God promises to bless us and answer our prayers but there are certain criteria we must meet to activate certain promises and blessings. The Lord doesn’t put a name on any blessing or promises and whoever meets the criteria activates the word.
Our service to God and humanity is a criterion for generic blessings, meaning that we receive the blessings as part of being born again but there are those spiritual arenas we can’t enter or access until someone meets the criteria.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 says to whatever we do as, unto God, that means going beyond the expected in whatever we do. Some of us will go above and beyond in our jobs to gain promotion but in the things of the spirit, the service must be of the highest quality as God does not accept half measures or mediocrity. This is why Exodus 19:5 say blessings await those who obey God fully.
Our text is one of service unto God. A service that opened the door of marriage for Rebecca who had no idea that she was about to meet the criterion for a kingdom assignment.
Abraham has set Eliezer a daunting task, he has no idea how to execute it but he committed it to the Lord in prayer and set a criterion on it. Along came Rebecca who offered her service as unto the Lord, going beyond the asking and the expectation of Eliezer in verses 17-21, Eliezer stood in amazement, watching this young girl water his camel when all he asked for was a drink of water for himself.
Imagine the effort, strength, and dedication it took her to go back and forth fetching water for ten camels. She met Eliezer’s criterion for a wife.
How about you? Can you meet the criteria of service in God’s vineyard? Everybody wants to work for God but only on big platforms, nobody wants to dirty their hands building but wants to be catapulted from receiving the call to being made overnight without going through the process, without serving humanity with their God-given gift but wants everyone to serve and honour them because of that gift.
There is a criterion for service in whatever area God is calling you into and until you meet it, the doors wouldn’t open.
Joshua 24:14 gives us some criteria for serving the Lord.
Fear the Lord—Reverence him as the sole object of your religious worship.
Serve him—Perform His will by obeying his commands.
In sincerity—Have your whole heart engaged in His worship.
And in truth—According to the directions He has given you in His word.
And finally, put away the gods, foreign gods and idols that will distract and limit us from serving the Lord wholeheartedly and humanity.
It doesn’t matter how tough the criteria are, how unqualified you think of yourself, if you permit yourself to meet the criteria and do it as unto the Lord, you’ll find yourself stepping through doors that no man needs to open because the Lord already opened it. There is a criterion for that service,
Shalom
