Psalm 7:15 CSB
He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made.
A trap is anything that ensnares one, an ambush set against another, or any device by which one may be caught unawares and rendered incapable.
Traps are set daily by anyone in any area to catch another, we can sometimes trap ourselves with the things we do and speak according to Jeremiah 5:26.
Snares are set to catch a person for usually a negative purpose; to discredit, disqualify or destroy them.
We are spiritually, morally, and physically responsible and accountable for everything we do and say according to Matthew 12:36.
We fall into all kinds of traps daily, these traps could hold us bound for long or short periods but however long the captivity, the damage is still done because, at the point of captivity, we are unable to perform to the highest potential the Lord has infused us with.
Whether the trap is of our making or others, the Lord would not allow us to be caught like preys according to Psalm 57:6, declaring that those who set a trap for you will themselves fall into it.
Some are trapped in the wrong and damaging habits and have no idea how to get out of them, others are trapped in a lifestyle that holds no meaning or benefits for them and is slowly draining them of vitality while most of humanity remains trapped in either religion, no religion or exhibits lukewarm faith.
Whatever restrains us is a trap according to Joshua 23:13 because they are a thorn to our flesh and lives and since God sees and knows all things including those hidden within us according to Hebrew 4:13, we should therefore be wise to obey the Lord when He tells us what and who to get rid off from our lives. Certain things and people may become snares for us and if we don’t follow the Lord’s directives and get rid of them, their traps become strongholds over our lives.
Psalm 142:3 says they have hidden a trap for us along the way we travel! That means someone is always plotting how to distract, derail or detain us by laying traps on the paths we go. Traps may be laid on the paths of our job, businesses, career, even within families and marriage.
Who or what has hidden a trap for you?
The enemy sets traps to catch us out in spiritual issues that may cause people to either question our faith, ridicule us, or shun us. Traps that according to Galatians 5:19 may be both visible or non-visible, private, or public but traps nonetheless as all these succeed in doing is trap us from walking in the fullness of righteousness and the authority of the Holy Spirit.
According to Amos 3:5, can a bird fall in a snare if there is no bait on the trap? No! Can we, as sinful people, fall into a trap of any kind without bait? Certainly not. Bait is the attractive thing that catches our attention to get us into the trap. It could be a business deal that sounds too good to be true, a look-like godly relationship that is from the pit of hell, a well-placed deceptive scriptural lie to justify our actions or simply a wicked trap set out of envy.
A golden gilded cage is still a cage because it restricts one’s freedom. Seek the Lord and allow Him to help you not get trapped.
Shalom
