Matthew 3:7-9 (Darby)
7 But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Produce therefore fruit worthy of repentance.
9 And do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father; for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Transformation is changing, to shift from the normal or known to the new and different.
Information is the knowledge gained through study, instruction, or experience.
Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge declare Proverbs 23:12, saying that the information gained from listening and obeying instructions bring transformation.
What do you do with the instructions of the Lord? What do you do with the information you gather from experiences?
According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, accepting Christ should bring both a spiritual and physical transformation. If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. It is unproductive if we claim a connection to Christ according to the flesh, while the heart remains unchanged. Having received Christ, we are open to the Holy Spirit’s dwelling in us by faith, changing us from the old to the new.
There are all kinds of information in the world, covering every topic and interest, but we only search out what we need per time. If you need a service, we seek information about them, what they offer, their reputation, and their ability to render that service to decide if they are what you need.
The information contained in the scriptures is what believers need to change opinion, mindset, outlook, character, heart, mind, and life from what the worldly carnal information made us into what God wants us to be according to Romans 12:1.
It is the word of God Romans 12:2 that transforms us from the old to the new. Even after converting, the present evil age will still tempt us, so we must resist its pressure and attractions. Depending on the word is therefore mandatory to the mind being made new, transformed by the Spirit of God.
Jesus, in calling the leaders a generation of vipers was referring to the serpentine characteristic of poison and craftiness, lies, evil, venomous tongues, revolt, and hypocrisy with which they peddled their doctrine of faith-based according to them on the Mosiac laws. Though they seem to think they have superiority over the ones who claim to have become Christ’s followers because they had Moses as a father and leader with all the information, they had acquired in life gives them the false confidence that they know more about God, His will and plans for humanity and so they were not ready to entertain other options.
Sadly, the information they ad blinded them to the transformation they desperately needed.
We must understand that the power of transformation comes only from one source according to 1 Corinthians 1:18, the doctrine of the cross; or the information gained through the knowledge of the doctrine of the cross.
Transformation not information! Information is good but it is what the information does that gives us knowledge and power.
Ephesians 4:22-24 say to put off the old self, how? Only by the information of the good news of Christ’s gospel can we gain the knowledge to put off the old self.
The religious leaders of Jesus’ day refused to be transformed by the information they had but you have a chance to allow your life to reflect the likeness and glory of Christ according to 2 Corinthians 3:18. Don’t just gather information, let it transform you.
Shalom
