Mark 4:36 (NLT2)
So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).
Crowds! We have a habit as humans to follow the crowd to do, say, be whatever is the new thing.
Crowds have no room for individuality and uniqueness, the main characteristic of a crowd is uniformity, everyone and everything is the same.
Life is so crowded now that so many people can only operate in a crowd.
All through Jesus’ ministry, the crowd followed, some for the bread and fish, some for miracles and yet others for the word but Jesus always found a way to step away from the crowd.
The crowd is a good way and place to hide and some like hiding within the crowd, not wanting to draw attention to themselves for whatever reason except the further away they get from the crowd, the more they’ll be noticed as potential winners. Although it’s easier to hang tough with the crowd, nobody ever wins a race like a marathon by running within the crowd.
Sometimes it’s not only easier to stay with the crowd, but it can also be a lot safer in the right place.
The world crowd has taken on God, ridiculing God’s word by calling sin alternative lifestyles and calling evil first amendment rights as seen in Isaiah 5:20, sadly, so many follow these crowds.
1 Corinthians 15:33 says nothing good comes out of a crowd, one gets misled in crowds.
The Bible tells us in several passages that God has called us to be part of His kingdom. In other words, God has told us to step out from the crowd we’re in and come on over to His side.
As Christians, we know that we’re required to do things differently from everyone else. We’re specifically instructed not to conform to the ways of the world in Romans 12:2, but the pull of the crowd can be hard to resist.
Jesus is saying to you to leave the crowd and get on with the Father’s business, the crowd can be a distraction and time-consuming.
Leave the crowd, many people are waiting to hear your vision, your ideas, your plans and to run with them but within the wrong gathering and crowd, you may not achieve much.
Exodus 12:38 talks of the mixed multitude that went with the Hebrews when they left Egypt; a crowd made up of slaves, natives and foreigners, the ones who mostly caused problems for the Israelites.
Crowds never have anything positive for you, crowds are full of nay Sayers, doubters, competitors and troublemakers, generally, people in a crowd think and want everyone else to be like them as demonstrated in John 5:2-6. Being in a crowd stops us from seeing God, new opportunities and it makes us settle.
The crowd is a very dangerous voice to listen to, like those in Luke 23:20-23, with one voice they shouted for the crucifixion of Christ, the same crowd who a few days ago were singing and shouting Hosanna in Matthew 21:9-11.
The crowd doesn’t allow you to be yourself, it doesn’t allow you to fulfil your potential, the crowd give us false courage.
Unless you’re at the top (if there’s one), you don’t decide much on anything but follow as you’re led. Leave the crowd, Christ has an assignment for you that is not crowd friendly.
Shalom
