REST

Genesis 2:1-2 (AMP)
1 HUS THE heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Rest, that thing we all know of, but few do, many understand it but don’t to do it, others don’t know why they must rest, and a lot think it’s unnecessary. Which one are you? It could be all depends on time, need and circumstances.
God, as the ultimate and perfect Father, set the example to rest for us from the beginning.
God ceased from working, not because He was tired, as stated in Isaiah 40:28, but it was an example equivalent to a command that we also should cease from labour of every kind intermittently. God made and called the seventh day holy, setting it apart for a special purpose that would meet humanity’s spiritual and physical needs in Exodus 20:8-11.
Rest! The one day in the week to keep holy to God, reserved for the special purpose of dedicating yourself to enjoying God’s presence, blessings, and grace by withdrawing from any form of work, taking a day of rest is to honour the Lord.
Our generation is one of stress and anxiety fuelled by speed, “the microwave age,” we take pride in our busy schedules and try to outdo each other in busyness and then feel guilty when we take time out for relaxation. Some don’t rest until their bodies physically demand it by either getting sick or just shutting down from exhaustion. God didn’t intend for us to live in a state of perpetual hurry or fast lane.
Jesus! The very Word of God withdrew occasionally during His earthly ministry to rest and encouraged the disciples to the same in Mark 6:31-33.
My children are forever urging me to have a “rest day,” while I try to do as much as I can, even manufacturing chores for myself sometimes because, like many of us, I feel like I am not doing enough.
What do we accomplish with our busyness?
As inundated by people’s urgent needs as Jesus was, He was never in a hurry or too busy for needful things, He was always surrounded by a crowd with barely time to catch His breath, but He made time for rest, to recharge, refill and revive in the Father in Mark 6:31.
We need downtime to reconnect with the Lord, catch up with family and friends, read a book and binge on movies. I’ve found and have begun to maintain my pattern of rest- I’ll go sometimes for a rest day where I catch up on a book, music or movies (cartoon and detectives for me). The most work I do on my rest days is preparing meals for my family, but I now look forward to my rest day.
When life gets too hectic, take time off, give the stress and anxiety to the Lord and He’ll relieve you of the burden says Matthew 11:28-30.
We need refreshment from busyness, get restored bodily and emotionally and refilled with strength, wisdom, and joy, but only in Christ’s presence can we rest without “hurrying to work,” see Psalm 23:1-3.
From God’s and Jesus’s examples, God wants us to discover rest and refreshments for the body and soul, so take time out to rest, your Father wants you well, healthy and joyful. Get some rest!
Shalom
