John 3:8 (ESV)
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
There are winds and there are winds! We hear and see the effect of the wind but do not know where it comes from according to John 3:8.
When the wind of God blows, oceans part, problems are blown away, strongholds are demolished, and lives are transformed.
The wind could be so many things to God; first, the wind is the Holy Spirit-the power of God for change, the wind is a vehicle and messenger for God.
The bible opened in Genesis 1:2 with the Holy Spirit as the wind of God that moved across the surface to produce the creator’s command.
The bible speaks of five types of wind: the North, South, West, East and Whirlwind. We often hear of ill wind, well that’s mostly the East wind that brings disaster according to Ezekiel 17:10, instigates God’s judgment and punishment in Hosea 13:10, and according to Job 27:21, it is the wind that brings tests and trials in our lives.
The Northwind mentioned in Songs of Solomon 4:16 is a flourishing agent.
According to Job 37:17, the South wind is what keeps us cool when it’s too hot and warms us when too cold, it’s through the South wind that we correctly predict how hut it would be according to Luke 12:55 and according to Acts 27:13 it is the South wind that sailors a smooth sailing.
The West wind is the only one the Lord referred to as strong in Exodus 10:19 and, was used to clean the land of Egypt of the Locust.
Every use of the whirlwind was about the Lord, He spoke and worked through the whirlwind most times as stated in Job 38, God answered all his questions from within the whirlwind in vs 1 and again in 40:6.
According to 2 Kings 2:1, 11, it was the whirlwind that the Lord used to carry Elijah on the chariot of fire to heaven.
Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord within the whirlwind in 1:4 and Nahum 1:3 declares that the Lord’s path is seen in the whirlwind.
When we are positioned correctly in Christ, the wind of God can be anything for and to us, since we can’t see or hear where it comes from, we can trust the Lord to wisely send the appropriate wind needed per season.
When the Lord was done destroying the earth, He sent the wind to pass over and subdue the effect of the rain in Genesis 8:1.
The wind of God blows wherever the Lord sends it bringing with it the breakthrough, miracles, deliverance, refreshing, restoration, blessings, and healings we need. Through the wind of the Lord, we are reborn as in Ezekiel 37:9.
How the new birth in Christ is affected by the Divine Spirit through the blowing wind, may be difficult for us to understand but we hear the sound of the wind in a variety of directions—we perceive its operation in the motion of the trees, and feel it on ourselves; we only know that it exists by the effects which it produces: just as the wind brings our desires to life, so does it affect and manage the elements of creation, Psalm 148:8 says God’s wind will fulfil His word. Hold on! Don’t be blown away by the winds of change but allow the wind to change your circumstances.
Shalom
